The scene in the Mississippi Con vention.iwhen the vote wa about to be taken on the s,ecesion ordinance, is described a3 hav ing been of a most impressive character. When : the words .were propounded by the President, "Gentlemen. of the Convention, are you ready for the question ?'-' Col. Walter Brook, of War ren, arose and addressed the Convention in a dig . aified and eloquent Speech, setting forth the reasons why he was not prepared to vote for im mediate j and separate secession, but declaring that the causes justified the act, and that what ever course his State - might take, he would cor dially acquiesce in the decision, and give his all tp the maintenance of her honor and rights. . Mr. "Alcorn, aul other gentlemen of the co-operation party, followed to the like effect. Not a word was said by the friends of the ordinance. The yeai and nays were ordered. Slowly the Secretary called the roll, and each member re sponded in a tone indicating deep, intense emo tion, but a firm And earnest purpose. Tears gathered in : the -eyes of nearly, every actor and spectator ofj the" solemn ceremony. When the call was completed, and the President announced the result .-eas eighty-four, nays fifteen a pro found silence for some time prevailed.- The President proclaimed the ordinance adopted, and the Convention adjourned. . . - Death ot ax Emisext Naval Officer.
