For annual repairs of the President's house and furniture, improvement of grounds, purchase of plants for garden, and contingent expenses inci dent thereto, five thousand dollars. ! For luel, in part, of the President's house, two thousand four hundred dollars. i For lighting the Capitol and President's house, the public grounds around them, and around the Executive offices, and Pennsylvania avenue, Bridge and High streets in Georgetown, Four-and-a-half street, Seventh, and Twelfth streets across the mall, fifty thousand dollars. For additional fixtures and lighting and repair pairing the building and footways of the custom house and post office in Georgetown, in the Dis trict of Columbia, two hundred and fifty dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary. For purehase of books for library at the Execu tive Mansion, to be expended under the direction of the President of the United States, two hundred and fifty dollars. For repairs of the Potomac Navy Yard, and Up per bridges, and the roads appurtenant thereto, six thousand dollars. For repairs of Pennsylvania avenue, and water ing the same, ten thousand dollars. For public reservation number two and Laiay ette square, two thousand dollars. For tnking care of the grounds south of the Pres ident's house, and keeping them in order, one thousand dollars. For repairs of water-pipes, five hundred dol lars. For cleaning out the sewer traps on Pennsylva nia avenue, and repairing the same, three hundred dollars. For repairs of all the furnaces under the Capi tol, five hundred dollars. For repairing Delaware avenue, north of C. street north, one thousand dollars. For paying one-half of the expenses of sewer traps at the intersection of Fourth street west with E. street north, two hundred dollars. Government Hospital for the Insane. For tho support, clothing, and medical treatment of the in sane of the army and navy and of the revenue ser vice, and of the District of Columbia, at the asy lum in aaid District, forty thousand five hundred dollars. For finishing, furnishing, heating, and lighting of additional accommodations in the east wing, five thousand dollars. For improvements of the grounds about the hos pital and farms, two thousand dollars. Patent Vmce.ox collection oi agricultural sta tistics, investigations for promoting agricultural and rural economy, and the procurement, propa gatiou, and distribution of cuttings and seeds, of new and useful varieties, and for the introauction and protection of insectivorous birds, and for in vestigations to test the practicability of preparing fiax and hemp as a substitute for cotton, sixty thousand dollars : Provided, however, That in the expenditure of this appropriation, and especially in the selection of cuttings and seeds for distnbu tion, due regard shall be had to the purposes of general cultivation and the encouragement ol the agricultural and rural interests of all parts ot the United States. For expenses of receiving, arranging, and taking care of copyright books, charts, and other copy right matter, one thousand six hundred dollars: Exploring Expeditions. or preservation ot tue collections or the exploring and surveymg ex peditions of the Government, four thousand dol lars.. Botanic Garden. For grading, draining, procu ring: mauure, tools, luel, and. repairs, purenasmg trees and shrubs for Botanic Garden, to be expen ded under the direction of the Library Commit tee of Congress, three thousand three hundred dol lars. : For pay of horticulturist and asssistants in the Botanic Garden and green-houses, to be expended under the direction of the Library Committee of Congress, five thousand one hundred and twenty one dollars and fifty cents. Survey of the Public Lands. If or surveying the public lands. ( exclusive of California. Oreeron. Washington, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Dakota, Colorado, and Nevada.) including inci dental expenses and island surveys in the interior. and all other Rpecial and difficult surveys demand ing augmented rates, to be apportioned and ap plied to. the several surveying districts according to the exigencies of the public service, including expenses ol selecting swamp lands, m addition to the unexpended balances of all former appropria tions for the same object, which will be absorbed by work under contract, ten thousand dollars. U or surveying the public lands and private land claims in California, to be disbursed at the rates prescribed by law for the different kinds of work, ten thousand dollars. For expenses attending the removal to and oc cupation of building at corner of F and Fifteenth streets, for the Surgeon General's and Paymaster General's offices, for the six months ending thirti eth of June, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, seven thousand eight hundred dollars. And be it further enacted, That the fol lowing sum be, and the same is hereby appropria ted for the service of the year ending thirtieth of June, eighteen hundred and sixty-three : For ex penses of building corner of F and Fifteenth streets, occupied by the Surgeon General's and Paymaster General's offices, eight thousand eight hundred dollars. And be it further enacted, That the Sec retary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby author ized and empowered to lease the property of the United States in the city of Burlington, lowa, upou which is the United States marine hospital, first Enviner thirty days' notice thereof: or if he shall deem it more expedient for the Government to re tain the title to said property, that he be authoriz ed to use it for the siek and wounded soldiers of the United States, or to discbarge all officers and servants of the Government connected therewith, and to close the hospital.
