Shcrrar, the friend of both combatants, drew a pistol and said he 'would shoot the first man .who interfered. , Walker did so, was shot and killed, and Sherrar escaped. At the close of the war he. came to this city and visited Princess Anne for the purpose of selling some property which be longed to him in the 'county. He then disappeared, and, although, frequently heard l'rofi in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, was not seen ijn this section again until Saturday night, when he appeared at Dr. Bell's house, near North Landing. The female elephant, in walking around the in closuiae. trod on cn? of the fragment's, and, being in. her bare, fett, received a paiuful wound. Instead of disolaving the heroic patience under Buffering that might have been looked for in a creature of her dimen sions, she set up a howl that made the roar of .the storm seem the sighing of a zephyr by contrast. The keeper, attracted by the din. hastened to the scene and found her rolling about the cage bellowing the while inces santly.
