The appointment of Fitz'itniuous as United States Marshal for Georgia has abaken our faith in the President's sin cerity more than any other step be has taken. ve believed him mistaken be fore; now the word will not express it. Marshal Smyth was a Republican; and, therefore, his assuming to dis charge the duties of the offico was, as the Georgia Democratic papers express It, "an outrage on the people." To re lieve th people from this "outrage," the President promised Senators Gor don and Hill to remove Smyth and appoint a Democrat in his stead. The two Senators named decided, after much quarreling, that Mr. HufT, the present Mayor of the city of Macon, waa toe man for the place. Ihe President instituted inquiries among the Republicans of Georgia as to the acceptability of Hull. He then had a disposition to plesse them if a Demo crat could be found who could do it.
