The company 1 met ! upon the boards of our! magnificent temple of the drama. The most gratifying success, which would hare continued un broken for an indefinite period, but for the intervention of the Lenten. Thur&day night the Lady of Lyons was performed. Friday night Mil man's tragedy of 4Fazio, or the Italian wife," was placed upon the stage, Miss D'Este in the extreme ly ponderous role of "Blanca." This is a partw hich tries ho power's ot the actress to the uttermost. We have known actresses possessing far more physical .ability than Miss D'Este,to break completely down in the fourth act, bringing the performance to an abrupt conclusion. It was Miss D'Este' first appearance on any stage in the part of "Bianca" and in view of this, right com mendably did she acqait . herself. Peal af ter peal of hearty applause, in rapid suc cession, greeting her and summoning her before the curtain at the end of the play, under a variegated cloud of the choicest bouquets, bestowed upon her from the bands of gentlemen in the audience, coo spicaous in this community for their eleva ted social and literary positions; an ovation we have never witnessed before, to sny ar tist f aur Opera House. In a brief and pertinent speech she expressed herself most gratefully to the audience and the public of Wilmington, for their kind appreciation of efforts to please them, in the hope, that she may be able to re-appear before them at some future time.. Loud regrets at her de parture were upon many hps. Yesterday "Leah the forsaken Jewess" was repeated at the matinee, and last bight "The Hidden Hand," a clever adaptation of Mrs. South worth's novel was creditably ren dered; after which the curtain tell the last time for this season. j We cannot part with tne Troupe without paying a farewell tribute to Mrs. Tennehill, she is indeed a treasure to any company; in Vandevell's farces, or comediettas, she has few superiors,, if ajny. Without her the "Old Reliable" would have a serious blank to fill. In taking leave of Miss D'Este snd her faithful support, we, at the same time, consign her to the good offices and careful considefation- ol the -Southera pretf wherever they may appear. 1 Senatorial Districts.
