Graham read the report of the special committee on the resolutions in reference to the corresponding secreta ry of ihe convention. The report re commended that art. 7 of the constitu tion, which, defines the duties of the corresponding secretary, be repealed, and that the employment and compen sation of the agents be left to the board. This resolution was, however, declared not to be in any sense a reflection on the present secretary. After much discussion the whole mat ter was referred to the boards of the convention. The finance committee reported. The special order, the report of the committee on the report of the S. 8. Board, was taken up. The report was amended so that it should leave to the board the matter of employing a mis sionary and agent. I,t was then adopt ed, and the report of the board was also adopted. . The report of the committee to nom inate a S. S. Board was then taken from the table and adopted, This locates the board in Raleigh. The treasurer's report was read and adopted, and the thanks of the conven tion were returned to the treasurer, John G. Williams, Esq., for advancing money to carry on the work of the boards, and otherwise doing favors for the convention. On motion of Rev. J. K. Mendenhall of Greeuville, S. CM was invited to ad dress the convention in the interest of the Home Mission Board of the South ern Baptist Convention. Rev. R. T. Yann presented a letter from Rev. J. S. Murrow, a missionary to the Choctaws, which was written to him as the representative of the Mis sionary Society of the Southern Bap tist Theological Seminary. The letter contained some very interesting facts about the work among the Indians. Remarks were made by Rev. Messrs. C. Durham, "W. R. Gwaltney and E. Dodson, and a collection was taken; amounting to about $60 in cash and pledges. . AFTKBXOOX SKSSIOX. Col.. The Dis trict government is a very feeble affair and there have already been signs of turbulence. Wm. E. Chandler telegraphing from Florida, claims the State for Hayes but says it is close. A Herald special says, regarding South Carolina: "The result of the election may be briefly summed np on the Democratic side as follows: The election of Governor and Lieutenant Governor,1 a gain Of seven State Sena tors and j thirty-one Representatives, which gives a majority and secures the return of a Democrat to the United States Senate; a gain of two Congress men; a gain of five Solicitors out of eight; the election of the Comptroller General and probably of the Attorney General and Superintendent of Educa tion. 1 0 . . The Governor argues that as he has to make out the official re turns be must count the electoral vote. The following statement of affairs in the Peninsula is from the New York Herald : MK. Governor Stearns could insure the arrival of the official returns where the efforts of the com mittee might fail The committee, however, will not fail to obtain certified copies of tbe official record from everv county. Hernando, Llillsboro, Manatee and Dade, remote peninsular counties, cast ing Democratic majorities, have not yet been heard from at the State House, but the record, the certificates and the mails arc wholly under Republican con trol. The returns from these and all other counties in default should have been mailed by Monday last, - and may yet arrive before the end of another week. The Democratic Committee will certainly be prepared with certified copies of their official records. Taylor county, near by, it is said, has not been heard from, the Clerk is a Republi can and should have mailed the certifi cate a week ago. The Democratic com mittee have received a certified copy of the official record. In short, nothing here is under 1 Democratic control ; everything is under Republican control. The whole exertion or the Democrats of Florida and of the Democrats from other States here assembled has been and is to secure and prove the official records, for they establish the fact of a Democratic majority over and above all fraudsjasyct attempted or accomplished.
