The Charlotte Observer says i 41 A
Wilmington drummer writes ns quite
a lengthy letter, in which he states that
he has been very badly treated in sev
eral towns in this State by being ar
rested and brought before magistrates
to show why he had not purchased a
town license, in addition to the State
tax which he had. He wishes it pub
lished for the sake of his brethren in
the drumming business that, he was
sbrought before tffe Mayor of Greens
boro a few days go, and when he
showed His Honor, who is a. gentleman
and a scholar and a member of the bar,
the law as set j forth in section 82, page
"79, Battle's Revisal, he immediately
dif missed the case and made tht plain
tiff pay the cost. This, to the mind
of our commercial friend, plainly
proves that arrests for this offence are I
illegal and should be $o considered by
hi? brethren." 1
Death ef an Esteemed Iidy.
It is our sad duty to record the death,
at her residence on Chesnut street, yes
terday morning, of Mrs. Ann S. Pavis,
relict of Junius Pavis. Hsq., and sister-1
la-law of Hon. George Pavi?. The de
teased had a large circle of friends, and
she will be greatly missed. The funer
al will taks place this, afternoon at 3
o'clock, from St James' Church,
