The Subject '.of Wooden Buildings. The Board of Aldermen met yester day evening at 4 o'clock p.m. Aldermen Gardner . and. Cussidey were appointed a special committee. Several communications from jer sons asking to be relieved from paying taxes were referred to the special com-' mittee, '.which committee rep6rted as follows : ' "In accordance with the report' of the committee on ti nance that, as quite a large amount of taxes on real estate and personal property for the year 1873-!74, yet remain unpaid, they recommend that. the' City Attorney, in conjunction with thje City Treasurer, proceed to collect, according to law, the same at once. The committee fur ther recommend that the City Attor ney be instructed to bring suit against such parties as have not paid the amount due by them to the city for as sessments made ou street improve ments and opening of streets.'. This was adopfed. - The commjttee report that they have made a contract to supply the police force with uniforms. The Nut Shell says: "The Floyd was bound from Georgetown, S. C, for New York, is a large double-decked vessel of 280 tons capacity, and at the time of the disas ter was laden with naval stores. The judiciarv committee to-dav at tho suggestion ot mt. llunton recon sidered the vote to report Mr. McCra- ry s resolution for the appointment of a joint committee to consider the ques tion of the electoral vote. A substi tute was then offered, the object of which was to substantially reaffirm the 32d joint rule, This, however, was not agreed to.
