The regular month ly historical program, supplemented by a reading by Miss Julia Ricks and one by the leader, Mrsr Chas Carroll, was rendered, after which, the young hos tess, assisted by Miss Elizabeth Ander son, served hot chocolate and wafers, followed by fruit. The young men of the town gave a very enjoyable oyster roast, at a local cafe last Friday evening, complimen tary to the teachers of the city schools, and other friends. :o; The Literary department of the Woman's Club was entertained by Mesdames Will Owen ' and Robert Browder at their home on last Wed nesday afternoon. The program for the afternoon included a study of Bos ton and Women's Colleges and Their Student Life. The latter subject was handled very interestingly by Mrs. J. C. Russ. Mrs. C. A. Womack gave a reading, "The New Method Learning by Doing" after which Mrs. W. L. Hill spoke of Christmas Customs of the Germans, and Mrs. Chas. Carroll tpld of the rigin ?f s Niolas. At the close of the meet ing, the hostesses served an enjoya- ble salad course. -:o: The third attraction of the Piedmont Lyceum course appeared here Tuesday night in the school auditorium. It was a concert given by The Westminster Concert Entertainers, consisting of Miss Dorothy Cole, Reader and Pian- ,iSt; Miss Iras Wilson, Soprano, and Mr. Larry Ball, Singer and story-teller. They gave a varied and enjoyable pro- i gram, in which each performer display- ed rare talent , in their respective num bers. Miss Cole, as an impersonator humorous " selections. Miss Wilson possesses a voice of high- Tatige and sweet expression, and delighted, her audience with her singing, being espe cially pleasing in the number from "Madame Butterfly," sung in Japanese costume. Mr. Ball was at his best in Scotch songs and stories. -:o: Mrs. John A. Ricks returned last week from ashort visit to Wilmington.
