Mrs. Betsy Jordan, aged 33, died at the James Walker Memorial Hospital yesterday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock following a short sickness at that insti tution. The funeral was conducted this afternoon - at 3 o'clock from the residence No. 613 South Fourth street by Rev. W. R. Noe and interment was made in Oak Grove. wrote love letters to her under that name; had dined at her home in the Bronx; had given her presents of jewelry; had proposed marriage to her and was accepted, and then, un der this same understanding that! they were to be married, had betray-1 ed her at a hotel to which she ac-i ccmpanied him at Plainfield, N. .4- It. was while the case was m this embryo stage that the unique per sonality of Oliver Osborne, as an ac tual living being, entered. A man, whom James W. Osborne's law part i 1 i c'nrks described as some- embling their business asso ciate, walked into the Osborne law offices on the day Miss Tanzer's ac tion was filed and announced that he was the individual who had courted Miss Tanzer, and that he did not want to see an innocent man suffer for his actions. The " same evening he called on Mr. Osborne at his home and made the same declarations. But immediately thereafter he dropped j out of sight, and Mr. Osborne's search for him was unavailing. All of which tended to make the dark mystery several shades darker. In the course of time Miss Tanzer 1 was indicted and placed on trial on a perjury charge. , The trial was fill ed with sensations. Miss 'Tanzer. her three sisters and the clerk of the ho tel in Plainfield positively identified Jas. W. Osborne as the man who had courted Miss Tanzer under the name of "Oliver Osborne." The girl's law yers characterized "Oliver" as a myth who could never be produced in court. The proceedings ended in a i jury disagreement: Then came more charges and counter charges as start ling almost as Miss Tanzer's original accusation against James W. Os borne. Charge were filed against the girl's lawyers and also against the clerk of the hotel at Plainfield. The latter was tried, convicted and sen tenced on a charge of perjury. "ilA higher court eventually set aside the conviction. Through all these months the manj of mystery still succeeded in evading 'Dear Oliver eoniranlkL onnortnnlttaw I are many and the pay good.
