The war savings committee for New
Hanover county expects to continue
its activity in the work of organized
until a full working force has been
completed. In order that the public
generally may become fully acquaint
ed with the allotments by townships
and the districts into which the work
is to be divided, a summary is here
given by the committee:

The rural part of the county has
been divided into four districts by
townships. Rural Chairman J. O.
Brown will direct the work in the ru
ral sections, assisted by township
chairmen, who in turn will have un
der them vice chairmen. The vice
chairmen will direct the work of the
community captains and canvassers.
The city has been divided into two
districts. All of the territory north
of Market street is to be known as
district No. 1. All of the territory
south of Market street is designated
as district No. 2. P. H. Mason is to
be director-general of district No. 1,
and William Struthers, Jr., director-
general of district No. 2
No. 5; precinct chairman, J. H. Cus
tis. - All of the territory bounded by Sixth
street, Market street, the eastern
boundary of the city to the tracks of
the Tidewater Power company;
thence along the Tidewater Power
company's tracks to Castle street;
thence on Castle street to Sixth street,
to be known as precinct No. 6; pre
cinct chairman, T. R. Ames.
The territory in the country town
ships will be further divided into sec
tions and these sections will be in
charge of vice chairmen, who will
work under the township chairmen.
The communities will be further or
ganized and worked under the direc
tion of community captains.
Every city precinct will be sub-divided
into from four to twelve divisions.
These smaller divisions will be in
charge of vice chairmen, who will
work under the precinct chairmen. In
addition a block captain will be ap
pointed for every city block, and the
canvassers will work under the block
captains.
Prior to the canvass for pledges,
which takes place during the week of
June 23rd, a complete census of the
city is to be made under government
direction. The National special aid
society have tendered the services of
their organization to the war savings
committee to take the census. Their
block messengers will be inducted
into the service of the government for"
this work Wednesday and the census
cards will be carried out during" the
remainder of the week. Every hhouse
in the city will be visited in order
that a correct list of citizens may
be made and the informant called for
on the census cards must be given by
the occupants of every house.
The publicity committee for this
campaign, composed of Malcolm Q.
Little and Mrs. George L. Mitchell
and Mrs. J. B. Rice, will continue Its
campaign for advertising space. It is
the hope of the committee to have
every issue of every paper between
now and National War Savings day,
June 28, alive with war savings ads.
The people must be informed and eu
cated and the publicity committeo
