Ii,s Lizzie Reddin, who is one of the most magnificent types or magnificent womanhood that ever graced this earth, is on a vWt to relatives in Wilson, and ad miration again bows at her shrine of en chantment. Onr excellent and very worthy towns man, the highly cultured T. J. Hadley and his elegant and truly refined family left last week for the Northern Cities They will probably visit Canada before their return. That gem of beauty and soul of puritv, the exquisite and entrancing and charming Miss Callie Quarks has returned from an extended visit to Seven Springs, Morehead, Greenville and Kinston, where numberless heart strings were entangled in the meshes of her charmes. Those wide awake and well posted to bacco men, Anderson Jones, & Co., of the Planter's Warehouse show the people that they know their business and with square dealing and polite attention are at tracting hosts of friends from among the country people. Prof. Foust, the able and accomplished Superintendent of the Graded Schools in this place, desires us to say that the Col ored Graded School will be opened on Monday, and will be presided over by Frank Blount, a capable and efficient teacher aided by a corps of competent as sistants. George Dudley, the negro, who killed Redmond Blow, colored, in Greenville some months ago, and who was caught by policeman Jesse Mayo in Richmond and carried back to Greenville, was tried last week and found guilty, and was ten tenced by Judge Connor to be hung on the 4th of October. The patronage of the Wilson Male Academy has so increased as to necessi tate the employment of an assistant, and we are glad to hear that Prof.Wills .has se cured the very efficient services of Frank Winstead who stood very high at Trinity College, and won the promise of a bright and useful future, ' Dr. E. K. The stately and stylish and charming' and attractive Miss Mary Berger of Rocky Mount, and the pretty and winsome and radiant Mis. L. Edwards the low price merchant, is sel ling goods at remarkably low prices, and the result is he is doing a good trade and his store is always crowded with customers. Miss Rena Stewart, who is one of the loveliest and most attractive and most ex quisite and most bewitching little maidens that ever lived on earth, and who has ihe most fascinating manners that ever gave witchery to womanhood, spent several davs in Wilson, and then left on Monday for Richmond where she becomes one of the brightest jewe's in the Richmond Fe male College. Wilson's coronet of loveliness Is glor iously enriched hy the addition of another sparkling gem in the really attractive Miss Katie Wright, a young lady of wondrous fascination and transcendent loveliness and irresistible witchery, for she has not only a figure of matchless symmetry and'a face of enchanting beauty, but a heart of nob lest impulses, and a disposition as sweet as flowers in May. If our lady friends wish anything that is perfectly lovely and perfectly charming and perfectly exquisite and perfectly beau tiful and perfectly faultless and perfectly adorable just let them send twenty-five cents to George MuLroe, 19 Vandwater St. New York, and get his beautiful and magnificent and unapproachable New York and Paris Fashion Bazaar, the finest magazine we ever saw. Rev. Thos. Dixon, of New York, the thrilling oiatorand famous preacher, de livered his celebrated lecture on Fools to a delighted audience in Mamona Hall on Monday night. He was introduced by Henry Blount in a short speech, when he arose amid hearty applause, and for an hour and a half charmed and delighted the audience with his wonderful mimicry, striking illustrations and inimitable indi viduality. A large and attractive advertisement of the Wilson Tobacco Warehouse will ap" pear next week . The large and extraor dinary sales made this week by the indom itable and energetic and jolly Ed Pace, and his clever associate Walter Woodard have kept them so deeply buried in tobacco that they have not had time to write it up for this issue, but you will hear from them next week, and you will see some of the many advantages that they are offering to the planters in this section. The Wilmington Morning Star began its twenty fourth volume last Wednesday, and is the oldest daily in the State. It is pa per of finest typographical appearance and superior excellence, and is in consequence very popular with a large circle of readers. It is able and bold and conservative and thoroughly loyal to the Democratic party, and being edited with such conspicuous ability it is indeed a tower of strength, and weilds a powerful influence. Through all its years it has increased in brilliancy and in splendor, and now it shines with tin dimmed lustre and richness. The Baptists, after reserving enough of their parsonage lot on which to build a church edifice, have sold the remainder with the house now occupied by the Rev. Mr. Battle to Mr. Wm, Woodard Jr., who will move his family to town and become permanent residents of our rapidly glow ing place. Our community is to be con gratulated upon this excellent addition, for Mr. Woodard is a gentleman of great puritv and highest merit and most excel lent worth, and his wife is all that a true woman should be,therefore the town is to be congratulated upon having such an admir able addition to its cicle. When the Rev. Mr. Maxwell said that "the majority of the country people in the Eastern portion of the State are Primi tive Baptists and fatalists and who make whiskey and drink it for a "livihood" he wronged and misjudged as pious and as devout and as upright a body of christians as can be found on this green earth. Some of the verybest men in this section are members of this denomination, and the spotlessness of their lives is a shining ex ample of truth and honor and integrity and consercration, and we know thev V would not countenance, or even tolerate the evil of which Mr.Maxwell so unjustly complains At Mamona Hall in this place on Satur day night, "Jim, the Westerner," an American Society Drama, will be played under the immediate supervision of the author Edward E. Rose, and we learn it is a play, full of startling situations, and repletes with absorbing interest from the beginning to the ending. The plot of "Jim, the Westerner," is strong, well connected and of thrilling interestThough full of the mot laughable comedy, which keeps the audience in a roar of laughter during the entire play, the story is go well writen that at no time is the thread of the story lost sight of or forgotten. A quartette of superb vocalists accompanies the troupe, and intersperses the entertain ment with the richest strains ci inspiring music. Editor: Will you kindly give 6 pace this week in your popular paper for the following item of news from our section which will attract the attention, and be read with interest and with feelings both of sadness and pleas ure by the friends of the parties concerned, and bv all who enjoy their acquaintance. I'he usually 'happy home of our esteemed citizen, Mr. H. M. Thompson, of Stantonsburg, has been one of deep gloom and sorrow for the past five weeeks, during which time Ben, the oldest son, and Ida, the youngest daughter, have been critically ill with fever of a dangerous and ob stinate type, but at this writing I am pleased to announce that the united and skillful efforts of Drs. Person and Mewborn, with the help of the Great Physician, have been successful in de fending the citadel of life against the violent and persistent attacks of the King of Terrors, and the patients are . now happily out of danger, and rapidly advancing towards recovery. As the dark days sped by in this grief-stricken home the terrible suspense borne by the devoted parents, brother and sister of the sick ones, and the distress, anxiety, and despair depicted on their faces, wrung tears from many eyes, and touched every heart with deepest sym pathy. Among the friends who evinced tender solicitude, and gave valuable and timely aid there is one who deserves more than a passing no tice, and it becomes my pleasant duty to render honor where honor is due. Be it said to the credit of Mrs. Person, the accomplised wife of Dr. Person, that she left her home in Wilson, and came down to Stantonsburg to nurse and minister to the wants of these af flicted young people while the shadows of death seem fast gathering around them This excellent christian woman, who, by such unselfish deed, is laying up for herself treasures in Heaven, comes up to the full measure of my idea of a capital nurse for the sick gentle, patient, intelligent, sympathetic, ever watchful, and on the alert to ren der all necessary assistance. With un bounded admiration I witnessed for the first time the high order of talent which she displayed in performing the varied important and delicate duties incident to the sick room. May the good Lord send just such a one along my way should I ever be called to pass through a similar bitter trial from which Ben and Ida, by the mercy of Divine Provi dence, in conjunction with human ef fort, have safely emerged to the great joy, and delight of their family and many friends. I am sorry to report that Dr. Mewborn has been stricken with fever, but am pleased to learn he is not seriously ill. I sincerely hope he may soon recover, and be able to re sume his practice which I have been informed has grown to be quite exten sive, the result alike of his pleasant, and courteous bearing, medical skill and strict and unremitting attention to his patients.
