NOT
CE
Owing to the increased cost of doing business, and
the very small margin on which we are forced by the
Government to work, and the fact that we have to pay
cash for everything that we buy, and for the further
reason that it requires considerable time to handle
charge accounts and make collections now at a time
when help is scarce and the necessity for conserving
labor is important, we are forced to put our business
on a CASH BASIS.
Beginning SEPTEMBER FIRST, 1918, everything
we sell- will be for CASH, as we will have no charge
accounts.
We feel sure that the public will appreciate our po
sition and will cooperate with us.
This step has already been taken by a large major
ity of the coal and ice men throughout the country.
Respectfully,

WILLING TO GIVE A LOAD
The patriotic utterances of Albeit
Finch, a colored man who lives at
Lucania on Route number one this
morning when he was approached
by one of the ladles of the Red
Cross who asked him to donate a
half stick of tobacco are worthy of
emulation and publication.
The colored man said: "If you
need it madam take a whole stick
and if you can win the war take the
whole load."
He was informed that only a half
stick was asked as a contribution to
the great Red Cross that was giving
aid and comfort to the soldiers of
the allies and the poverty stricken
people in the war infested area of
Europe. But for the organization
of the Red Cross-thousands of sol
diers would lie on the batle field
without aid and die of their wounds
and the necessaries of life.
Finch during the recent campaign
for the Red Cross In his neighbor
hood organized the colored people
of his section and as a result a good
sum was realized in that community.

ERXMENT LOAX
Here is the history of money spent
for a War Savings Stamp or Liberty
Bond, as told by Secretary McAdoo:
"First, it goes to the government
as a loan for the war.
"Second, it is expended by the
government for food, clothing, and
ammunition.
"It has not been expended in the
purchase of needless food and cloth
ing for the man at home, and is
therefore released for the use of the
soldier. It is saved wealth to the
man at home and can be loaned to
his government at interest, with re
sulting benefit to himself and his
government."
