I am not in sympathy with Mr. Freeman's wrong, nor with Mr. Stokes' wrong, but I do love the riahteousness of Mr. Freeman and also the righteous of Mr. Stokes. I belieVe that the "third.bqy in the fracas" has not added anything towards the Golden Rule plan of thinking, writing and speaking or settle ment ot the dimculty. We saw the biggest fire on the 23, that eyes ever beheld. Mon ey Point situated on the South err, branch of the Elizabeth riv er, containing one large creosote plant, one box factory and a large saw and planing mills, to gether with forty or fifty dwell ings, seventy-five or fifty thous and dollar's worth of lumber covering aoout an acre of laud, 18 of the N. & W. freight cars and any amount of property be longing to' the cieosto plant, was totally consumed by the fire. It happened at noon the people were eating dinner, some had jiwt commenced cookinr their's: thnxn Uatinsr " loft hrfora ' finikin,- o - those who were cooking were cDmuelled to to take their bread from the ovens with scarcely the first crust upon it, aud go to the rescue ot tneir own little child ren as they stood crying aud homeless in the wide open field. Women rung their hnnds as they asked for their husbands aud other dear ones. Some men prayed; some cursed, I am sorry to state. Thieves were there and stole what thev could. No lives were destroyed by the fire. John Saunder's family of North Carolina, but lately employed in the Elizabeth-knitting mills of this place, was fatally cut in the abdomen a few days ago by his fellow workman, E. S. Harrell. Saunders died . died at the Re treat lor the sick in Norfolk to day. Both were young men. One has gone to the eternal world and the other now lies in the jail. .A word, a blow, and death is the result. Young men watch your passions. Kun, yes a thousand miles if you can, rather than get. in an altercation and take the life of another. The Lord Almighty console . the bereaved ones of the dead youn g man. And, O God have 'mercy on the poor young man now awaiting trial, and perhaj s exe cution at the gallows. Let us all learn a lesson. Moody and Sanky, of world wide fame, have been to Norfolk. They came, they saw, more than that, they worked, they con quered. But not all, they left some sin and satan still in Nor folk. But a great victory was gained lor righteousness. The great Armory building in Nor folk with its seatiug capacity of five or six thousand was filled at almost ever service. Possibly three or four hundred stood up for praj-ers and said "I will ac cept Christ." The different churches of Norfolk, Portsmouth and Berkley are reaping some of the fruits of the great meetings. But, perhaps, all who stood up were not clear conversions. It was recently reported by 'l Mr. Moody, that there is uow in this country', a leilgious awakening such as has never been seen be fore. There was nothing like it he said, in the great revival of 1857.
