It is a chance for kids to brush up on good oral hygiene. It is never too early to start the habits of taking care of oral hygiene. The American Acad emy of Pediatrics re ports tooth decay is the most common chronic children’s disease in the country. As a result, it is important that parents work with their pedia trician to establish good oral healthcare from the first few weeks of a baby’s life. While most adults think of dental care in relation to their dentist, parents will be working closely with their pedia trician even earlier than a dentist. Principal William Peele III of Bertie Middle School was named 2016 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year at a surprise annoimce- ment on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the school. Family, friends, colleagues and staff gathered for this special celebration in his honor. Peele’s brother. Dr. Dexter Peele said, “Like father like son. He makes sure education comes first.” The 2014-2015 Regional Prin cipal of the Year, Steve Lassiter from Pitt County’s Pactolus School, was there to turn the ti tle over to Peele. “It is an honor to be here to present Mr. Peele with this award,” said Lassiter. Peele is among eight regional finedists who will be interviewed and have their portfolios re viewed. The Wells Fargo Teacher of The Year will be announced at the spring state luncheon in Ra leigh. “He truly has a heart of gold for Bertie Middle School and his community. WINDSOR - Bringing healthy living information to the community. Bertie County Schools hosted a community health fair from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 27, at the Bertie Middle School. Several local businesses displayed information and providing demon strations to the community. Vidant Bertie Hospital performed free blood pressure and blood sugar checks for those in attendance. Vidant Bertie Hospital’s Childhood Asthma Program was present with tips on controlling asthma symp toms. The Bertie County Recreation Department provided information to the community regarding youth sports programs including soccer, football and baseball. Positive Parenting was available with tips for parents and families.
