As Ber tie County moves forward we welcome you to join us,” said Trent. “Martin Community Col lege welcomes you. We look forward to working with you,” expressed Arm Britt, President of Martin Commu nity College. Town of Windsor Mayor James Hoggard welcomed Dr. Conway to the town. Hoggard said,” We look forward to working with you. ECSU is also an eco nomic engine for the area.” Norman Cherry explained, “He is the right man for the job. . He wanted to visit the local comities and meet with the citizens. This is the sec ond town he has visited.” Dr. Thomas Conway said, “I am in this role because I sought it. I had fallen in love with the Elizabeth City area. “Elizabeth City State Uni versity was founded in 1891 to bring economic develop ment to the area,” he contin ued. “In 2016, ECSU is the local university and will con tinue to bring economic de velopment. What we do and what the local communities need to do, is to be synchro- rrized. Joining Simons for the presentation was Dr. Viola Vaughan. “We have to understand the work we do, it is for the next generation. The town has grown from a town of entrepreneurship. I want to work with entrepreneurs to train students to be the person who brings the next jobs,” Dr. Conley said. “As Chancellor I want to be involved in the process. We intend to collaborate with all 21 counties in the EX^SU area. We need to have con versations so we can align our goals. We can grow the economy in this part of the state,” he continued. “We live in an aging com- muruty. We want to en courage social service and healthcare programs that will help assist this com munity, tourism, and other areas that will be identified,” added Dr. Conway. Elizabeth City State Uni versity had the highest graduation rate at a four- year level from 1996 through 2006 out of all the Historiccil Black Colleges and Universi ties. Trent suggested inter est in talks of collabora tion between Bertie County School’s, Bertie County Ca det Program and a program with ECSU. “Most of the participants in the program have at least another 2 yeairs before they can be sworn in at any de partment. We need to devel op a program for the cadets to continue their education for another two years and to provide scholarships,” said Trent. The Bertie County Chapter ' of ECSU Alumni Association Treasurer, Estella Simons, presented Dr. Conway a check for $600 as a contribu tion to the college. Dr. Thomas Conway was appointed cheincellor of Elizabeth City State in Janu ary 2016. He comes to ECSU from Fayetteville State Uni versity, where he served as assistant chancellor and chief of staff since 2008. Dr. Conway earned an undergraduate degree in agricultural education in 1971 and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling in 1976 from N.C. A&T Uni versity. He earned a Ph.D. in coimselor education from North Carolina State Univer sity in 1994. He is a native of Louis- burg. He is married to his wife of over 35 years, My- chele. They have two adult children, Simon and Zena. The acceptable forms of photo identification are a NC Driver's License or DMV-issued Identification Card (expired up to four years), US Passport or Passport Card (unexpired). Military ID Card or Veterans Affairs ID Card (unexpired, if there is an expiration date), and certain Tribal Enrollment Cards. Voters who are unable to obtdin one of these forms of identification may still vote if their inability is due to a reasonable impediment such as a lost or stolen ID, lack of transportation, illness or disability, a lack of proper documents, work schedule, and others. These voters may vote a provisional ballot after completing a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and providing an alternate form of identification or the last four digits of their social security number and their date of birth. Acceptable alternate forms of identification for voters who complete a Reasonable Impediment Declaration include their voter registration card or a current utility bill, paycheck, government check, bank statement, or other government document bearing the voter’s name and current address. Alternative voting options are available for voters who do not present acceptable photo identification for a reason other than a reasonable impediment to obtaining one. Voters who use curbside Voting may also present one of the alternative forms of identification described above. No identification is required to vote an absentee ballot by mail. Free Identification Cards for registered voters are available from the NC DMV. Canvass Day will be held at 1LOQ a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Bertie County Board of Elections. All residents of Bertie County who are registered to vote with the Bertie County Board of Elections may vote in this election. Any person who is already registered to vote need not re-regi.ster to vote for this election. Those voters who are registered unaffiliated may vote in the Primary Election. Unaffiliated voters will be given a choice of ballot at the polling places. Those residents of Bertie County who are not registered to vote must register on or before Friday - February 19, 2016, in order to be eligible to vote on Election Day. Those voters who qre not registered by Friday - February 19, 2016, may register and vote during one stop early voting only, and will be required to provide documentation of their identity and residence. Voters who wish to change their party affiliation or who have changed their name or address must notify the Board of Elections in writing by Friday - February 19, 2016. Voters who fail to notify the Board of Elections of a change to their name or address must update their information when presenting to vote, and may be required to vote a provisional ballot. Voters who require assistance with casting their ballot are entitled to assistance by an appropriate person of their choice or an election official.
