Detective Naomi Wiggins of the Ber tie County Sheriffs Office answers the call of duty in a career field primarily made up of men. “My father was in law enforcement also, so this sparked my interests,” explained Detective Wiggins. When asked, “Did you find what you expected?” Detective Wiggins replied, “Yes and no. You always have a precon ceived notion how things are going to be. But with this job, every day is dif ferent. No day is ever the same.” “The worst part about the job is being called out in the middle of the night or on the weekends. If something happens and you are needed, you’ve got to go. It can be very time consuming. Sometimes you don’t have enough time in a day, but you always have the next day,” explained Wiggins. “The best part of the job is interacting with people. I am a people person. It helps me build rapport with the people in the communities-even if those people are on the wrong side of the law,” added Wiggins. Wiggins has been a member of the Ber- Wf- tie County Sheriff’s Office for five and a half ^ years. She began on patrol, and then was pro- moted to investigations a year later.
