Those wishing to teach their children valuable lessons about being part of the greater good, and helping those in need have a perfect local opportunity. The Relay For Life of Bertie County 2016 Kids Walk is planned for 8 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the Roy L. Bond Jr. Stadium on the campus of the Bertie County Schools Administrative offices. It will be a major part of the annual Bertie County Relay For Life, as the county takes up the fight against cancer for an unprecedented 22nd year. North Carolina’s old est Relay For Life can benefit from having yoimger members of the community join the longtime battle against the dreaded disease. Those wishing to have See WALK, Page A5 WINDSOR - Twenty-four years and going strong. The annual Tee & Sea is planned for Thursday and Friday of this week, and the event is headed back to its roots. “We’ll be headed back out doors this year,” said Tee & Sea committee member Josh Kilpatrick. “We think people are excited about it, and I know we are.” Kilpatrick said the entire event will return to Cashie Golf and Coimtry Club in Windsor, including Friday night’s seafood buffet. The event kicks off at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon with a Duffers Golf Tournament. Thursday evening will also see Ken Younger Night at 6 p.m. held at the Cashie club. The night will feature a re verse raffle and auction. Golf starts bright and ear ly Friday morning with two rounds planned for the day. There are morning tee times still available as of press time Tuesday. Kindergarten carries on 'beautiful' tradition By Jim Green Bertie Ledger-Advance MERRY HILL - A tradition con tinues. Lawrence Academy’s kin dergarten class, led by teach ers Pam White and Amy Smith, put on the classic Disney play “Beauty and the Beast” Thursday night and Friday morning in the school gymnasium. “It was a lot of work, but it “1^ was a lot of work, but it was also a whole lot of fun. ” ■ Lawrence Kindergarten teacher Pam White was also a whole lot of fun,” said White, the director. “The children did a wonderful job.” This is the 10th year White has directed the play, which originated in the 1980s. The kindergarten class. made up of 16 boys and girls, started practice in January and worked on the produc tion almost every day since March, White said. The Bertie County Commissioners along with the K. B. Reynolds Charitable Trust host ed a public forum last week. The forum was con vened to get the Ber tie County Citizens involved in the discus sion of health and well ness over the next ten years. John 'Trent, Bertie Coimty Commission Chairman, welcomed those in attendance. Trent introduced the committee members who were selected to help with the cam paign.
