voices were heard.
The Colerain Board of
doinnassioners held a
hearing Monday
night to discuss the fu
ture of the old museum
building.
Town citizens voiced
their opinions about the
use of the facility.
“Wlrere is the wom
en’s club today? Where
is the civic club today?”
one citizen asked.
The building cur
rently sits vacant and
is costing the town of
Colerain and estimated
$700 a year for insur
ance. The building has
also had to have some
repairs to the roof be
cause of leaks and that
was also at the expense
of the town.
“I would love to do
nate the building to
a realistic group that
would be willing to take
it over. The town of Col
erain is not in the real
estate business,” said

That’s what led to the arrest
of a Bertie County man fol
lowing four incidents of cash
ing forged checks.
Windsor Police Chief Todd
Lane said his office was con
tacted May 3 about the theft
of a checkbook from a vehicle
near Windsor Oaks.
The victim said four checks
had been chased at different
credit union since the theft,
and the checks were not au
thorized.
Windsor Police Sgt. Justin
Jackson took over the inves
tigation, and immediately
contacted the credit unions
in question. Sgt. Jackson was
able to obtcdn photographs of
the suspect and copies of the
check in question.
The suspect used his N.C.
Driver’s License as identifica
tion, and the license number
was printed on all four of the
forged checks, according to
the WPD.

WINDSOR - The rain didn’t stop a Windsor tra
dition.
The Windsor Fire Department hosted their
24th annual Tee & Sea Festival Thursday and
Friday night.
Guests come from near and far to enjoy the
golf tournament, participate in the reverse
raffle, eat seafood and dance the night away.
Thursday started the golf tournament, and
the reverse raffle was held. On Friday night
was the main event with the dinner and danc
ing.
The guests eryoyed fresh cooked fried fish.

WINDSOR - Reading help is headed
to Bertie County.
Last week, Bertie County Schools
Superintendent Elaine White an
nounced the district has received a
$50,000 grant for reading interven
tion.
“NC Quest is a partnership we
have with UNC-Chapel Hill,” White
said. “I’m happy to announce Bertie
Coimty has been awarded a grant in
the. amount of $50,000 through this
program.
“It is a targeted reading interven
tion program,” White said. “It works
with teachers in grades K-2, who will
receive staff development.”
White said the program would al
low teachers to receive training to
intervene with the children strug
gling most with reading in their
classrooms.
