During recent weeks, the Bertie County Board of Education has taken steps to provide lead ership in the district’s schools. Earlier this month, Interim Bertie High School Principal Cal vin Moore learned the interim tag would be removed as of July 1. Moore, who moved to BHS following the resignation of Rickey Eley, was the Princip^ of Bertie Early College High School before be ing named Interim at BHS midyear. He will be joined at Bertie High School by Tony Hoggard, who vdll serve as Assistant Prin cipal/Dean of Students. Hoggard was Alterna tive Education Special ist. Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his officers are continuing to work through all leads, and are attempting to develop suspects in the cases. “We haven’t slowed down since the three murders took place,” Sheriff Holley said. “We are working just as hard today as we were then. Bond Jr. Stadium Friday to kick off Relay For Life 2016. Relay adds $250,000 to fight By Leslie Beachbdard Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - Bertie Coimty walked for a cure. The 23rd cirmual Bertie County Relay for Life was held Friday night. It was a night of remembrance, cel ebration and entertainment. 'The night began with a celebration of the survivors. Bertie County Commissioner Stuart White introduced the guest speaker, Fannie Wil liams. Williams, a cancer sur vivor and caregiver, told her story. “I have helped with Relay for Life working with the schools and have had cancer affect those in my family, but I never imagined 1 would get a diagnosis of cancer,” said One of the many cancer survivors at Friday’s opening ceremony reaches for a bal loon given to each survivor in attendance. First responders to the accident scene, ap proximately 2.4 miles west of Windsor on NC 308, found Michael Johnson 11, 28, of Wind sor deceased in a field off the roadway. The other victim is 25-year-old Shauna Ba- zemore of Windsor. She is currently hospittil- ized at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. First Sgt.
