Bertie County Ranger Mike Hoggard of the N.C. Forest Service said observance of defoliat ed trees, and concerns from citizens led to a reconnaissance flight. Hoggard said the flight allowed Forest Service personnel to look at the bottomlands along the Roanoke and Cashie riv ers, where large areas of defoliated trees were found in Bertie, Martin, Halifax and Northamp ton counties. Bertie County Sheriff John Holley has annoimced charg es for three men in one of the three murders that took place over the course of a week last month. Sheriff Holley announced two arrests and named one additional suspect in the mur der of 19-year-old Shaquan Ja- mar Taylor in Kelford on April 14. Dominique Brimley, 19, was arrested and and charged with first-degree murder, fel ony conspiracy and breaking and entering. He was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under no bond. Following the annoimce- ment of the warrants, De’Andre Rascoe, 19, turned himself in Saturday at the Bertie County Sheriffs Office. He has joined Brimley in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail, and is also under no bond. Wesson was recognized with six other Rotarians at the district level. The district is comprised of 41 clubs and over 1,500 mem bers across eastern North Caroli na. Wesson had previously been named 2016 Rotarian of the Year for the Rotary Club of Windsor.
