Biggs went before the
Commission Board to
give an update of any
economic changes in
the county and to intro

owner.
“It can be tough going
after the big organiza
tions. It can be hard to
draw them to the area.
But we can help local
area businesses ex
pand,” said Biggs.
Biggs introduced
Danielle Baker to the

Baker operated Bak

“In April we started
looking at expand

needed a bigger budd

Young people enjoyed the Sage Festival as much as anyone.
WINDSOR - On it went.
The rescheduled Sage Festival
brought hundreds to Windsor Friday
evening despite 90-plus degree tem
peratures and a thunderstorm that
cut the evening an hour short.
“Despite the adverse weather
conditions, I was pleased with the
crowd,” said Windsor/Bertie Cham
ber of Commerce Executive Direc
tor Lewis Hoggard. “I think everyone
had a good time.”
Hoggard said the bands played
well, despite the fact Moonshine’s
performance was shorter than ex
pected due to the weather. Also on
the stage were Clint Freeman and
Unity and Nine Pound Hammers.
“Each of the groups brought some-

WINDSOR - The epitome of team
work.
That’s what brought two tree
houses to Windsor, according to
Mayor Jim Hoggard.
The tree houses, which re
ceived international exposure
Monday evening on the DIY
Network, were built as part of
a plan to bring more tourists to
the town, especially those wish

AULANDER - Let’s come
together.
That’s the sentiment
one Aulander resident
expressed during Mon
day night’s meeting of
the town’s board of
commissioners.
Robert Green said
he was a resident of
Aulander for less than
one year, and he wants
to see the. community
come together.
During the public
comment section of
the agenda. Green told
the board he had been
thinking a lot about the
recent deaths in the na
tion, and he wanted Aul
ander to get involved in
being a solution.
“I was thinking about
having an anti-violence
march maybe from town
hall to the park,” Green
said. “I just want to put
that idea out there.”
Green said he was at
tending his first meeting
of the town board.
Aulander Mayor Larry
Drew welcomed him to

WINDSOR - There will
be no contested races.
Barring a last-minute
write-in campaign, Ber
tie County will be keep
ing the same members
on its Board of Educa
tion.
Filing recently con
cluded for the county’s
school board with only
incumbents Bob Oc-
cena (District 1) and
Tarsha Bush-Dudley
(District 5) filing for
those seats.
The same is true for
the position of Soil and
Water Conservation
District Supervisor.
There only the incum
bent, John M. Griffin
of Lewiston Woodville,
filed for the seat.
Bertie Coimty will
likely have no locally
contested races on the
November ballot as the
other members of the
local elected delega
tion also have filed, and
have no opposition.
Both Bertie County
Commissioners - Dem
ocrat Ronald D. Wes

unaffiliated candidate
John Trent in District
