AULANDER - Hundreds came to celebrate Christ mas together. The town of Aulander hosted its annual cel ebration of Christmas Saturday complete with the annual parade, a Christmas concert and the town’s tree lighting ceremony. The parade had more than 70 entries, and traveled from Rice Avenue to Main Street before turning on Commerce and heading all the way to the railroad track. That was followed by a Christmas concert by Richard Simmons, during which refreshments were served and citizens were able to mingle and fellowship. The final event of the day was the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. ” See AULANDER, A3 Train museum becomes reality BY LESLIE BEACHBOARD Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - All aboard. The Windsor Railroad Museum is one step closer to opening. “This is no longer a figment of our imagina tion, but is now a real ity,” said Windsor Rail road Museum Director Mike Dail. The museum, which will be located on Gran ville Street in Windsor, will have something for train enthusiasts of all In this edition ages. The front room of the museum will have sev en or eight trains run ning. There will also be train memorabilia, in cluding some donated from a train museum in Wilmington. “The middle room will be the Windsor train room,” said Dail. Arrest made in break-ins BY THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance BLACK ROCK - A rash of break-ins has led to the arrest of a Bertie Coun ty man. Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his of fice was investigating multiple break-ins , in the Merry Hill and Col erain areas. “There have been reports of items be ing taken out of yards and vehicles, and there have been 14 residen tial break-ins,” Sheriff Holley said. On Dec. 5, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a break-in on Black Rock The vehicle was later located on Connaritsa Road on Kelford, and the driver was identi fied as Kirklin Williams. Warrants were drawn for Williams’ arrest on two counts of breaking and entering and lar ceny after breaking and entering. He was arrested on Dec. 8 and placed under a $30,000 secured bond on those charges. He was confined to Bertie- Martin Regional Jail. See ARREST, A3 Windsor board alters UDO BY LESLIE BEACHBOARD Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - The town of Windsor Commission ers voted last week to change the Unified De velopment Ordinance (UDO) to add home oc cupations. “The amendment has positive aspects for the town,” said Holland Consulting Planners Di rector Dale Holland. The amendment would allow businesses to occupy a home in a residential district, as long as the business falls in the following categories: agriculture, forestry, law and ac counting.
