WINDSOR - A new grant
will provide the Commu
nity In Schools program
to Bertie High School.
A grant of $125,000
has helped the Com
munity In Schools pro
gram provide support
for students, and makes
partnerships between
Bertie High School and
the community.
“Bertie High School
is considered a low-
performing school with
a grade of a D. We are
putting this program in
Bertie High School to
help the students suc
ceed,” said Bertie High
School Principal Calvin
Moore.

build relationships and
partnerships. 1 strongly
support this,” said Ber
tie County Schools Su
perintendent Dr. Steven
Hill.
Communities In
Schools have helped
as rnany as 165,000 stu
dents in North Carolina
to eliminate barriers.

gram,” said Bertie
County Commissioner
Tammy Lee.
Bertie High School
has a student support
specialist to find the
needs of the school as
a whole, and then select
students for the pro
gram based on a need.
Needs may be absenc

ing the parents so the
students know they are
not alone.

Windsor’s Wreaths Across America ceremo
ny took place Saturday, Dec. 17 at Edgewood
Cemetery.
The coordinator, Len Joyner, and partici
pants gathered around the gazebo for the
event. Joyner welcomed all those present.
“It is always an honor to come here arid re
member solders; men and women that have
served. 1 would like to thank Len for the job
she does because it isn’t an easy job,” said
Windsor Mayor James Hoggard.
“1 would like to thank V.F.W. Post 6060 of Eliz
abeth City for being so precious and faithful in
coming each year. They do a great job,” added

Healthcare services
were well used in Bertie
County in 2015.
Trillium Health Re
sources Representative
Bland Baker presented
the Bertie County Com
missioners with the
2015 statistics and an
nual report at their last
meeting.
According to Baker,
July 1 made one year
since the Trillium Health
Resources in consolida
tion. It required an an
nual gaps and needs
process. The survey
was done through a
third party company.
“In 2015 Trillium
Health Resources
served approximately
50,000 people over 24
counties. A total of 814
individuals were served
in Bertie County in
2015,” Baker said.
There were 705 servic
es provided for mental
health and 130 services
provided for substance
abuse. Some of the 814
individuals were served
from both sides.
According to Baker
there are a wide variety
of services available
for individuals in Ber
tie County including:
adult/child outpatient
therapy, medication
management psychi
atric services, psycho
social rehabilitation,
multi-systemic therapy,
child/parent psycho
therapy, mobile crisis,
innovations and hos
pital/emergency room
services.
“Trillium is currently
building a 200-bed in
patient facility in Green
ville for those needing
inpatient drug rehabili
tation,” added Baker.
