WINDSOR - More than 150 art lovers cozied into the Bertie County Arts Council gallery on King Street Sunday afternoon to celebrate the “Grand Re-Open ing” of the Arts Council’s home. The building had suffered seri ous flood damage to the floors and walls after Hurricane Mat thew left the interior awash in several inches of standing wa- “We were devastated,” said Council president Karen Sours. “We had repainted and redeco rated during the previous year, and we were so proud of the appearance of our gallery. The flood really hurt us. All local artists and art lovers felt the pain.” Fortunately, the building’s owner, the town of Windsor, committed quickly to the repair and restoration project. In order to respond to a number of citizen concerns about traif- fic safety, the Windsor Police Department set up two traffic enforce ment activities over the weekend. “The Windsor Police Department is very re sponsive to the request from citizens to address speeders and reckless drivers especially in the residential areas,” Chief Lane said. “Those enforcement activities resulted in two arrests and several citations.” On Friday, Feb. 11 Windsor Police Cpl. The Bertie County Master Gardeners pre sented several ideas for the floral gardens to the town of Windsor Com missioners last Thurs day. “Bertie County Master Gardeners have been in existence for 14 years and we have around 14 members,” said Bertie County Master Garden er Mary Tibbs. The Bertie County Master Gardeners have worked on several proj ects including flower pots that decorate the sidewalks and the Ber tie County Courthouse. Now the gardeners have their eyes set on the Roanoke Cashie Riv er Center. “The Bertie County Master Gardeners know how the town would like to beef up activities at the River Center. We have an idea of putting a garden at the river center,” added Tibbs. According to Tibbs, a demonstration garden would be placed along the fence on the back side of the River Cen ter.
