BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE APRIL 19,2017 I B3 The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 JUNIOR BIBLE QUIZ TEAM WINS The novice level Junior Bible Quiz team from Askewville As sembly of God won first place at the state-level competition on April 9. Pictured are (front row, from left) Austin Perry and Olivia Bazemore. In the second row are coach Michelle Per ry, Makayla Hill, Shane Lowers, Lindsey Perry, coach Danny Preach the Gospel And Jesus said to the disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Who ever believes and is baptized will be saved. ” Found in Mark chapter 16, these verses should propel us forward in life. Dare 1 say, they should be the marker to know if our life is on the right trajec tory. You may be wondering how and why this is true. 1 live in the desert in Africa, and have done so for the past six years. During those six years 1 have learned the local language, become familiar with the culture and the people surrounding me; and yet if all 1 do is make friends and everyone loves me, really I’ve failed. 1 have said “yes” to go to this country so that He might be known amongst a people that is lost, dying, and on their way to an eternal suffering, so how can 1 not tell them of the One who has completely changed me in side and out? 1 have said yes to picking up my roots from a familiar, small town life to putting down new roots in a capital city of three million - all so that they might know Him as 1 do. 1 now, tell sto ries of old to marginalized boys and pray that it touches them deep down inside to their very core. Discipleship is something 1 think that, generally, the church "This is the day the Lord has made." -PSALM 1 18:24 MISSIONARY NATALI WILLIAMS today thinks is no longer a man date, or useful in this day and age. In Matthew chapter 28, scripture commands us to go and make disciples, but you may be asking yourself, “’’really, what does that even mean? “ It means maiking life purpose ful, building on the foundation that God is with you and wants to see those around you recon ciled to Him. It looks like doing life with all of those who are around you, not just the believ ers that you have things in com mon with. Reach out to the one that you don’t understand - Jesus loves them too. Speak up and use your own testimony that will give glo ry to the One who helped you along the way and to encourage others - that’s why you have it. So many times people under estimate their God-given ability to reach out to those around them and speak into their lives. Do you have a neighbor that has a rough life? Pray that God would give you the words and humility to speak, and then act. Do you often wonder about sadness in the eyes of the cashier behind the register? Ask God to help you, and in humility be with that cashier. Pray for one another both in pri vate and in public. Seek out those who are never sought out. Speak words of en couragement to each another, but do not forget you must also be confessing your sins to one another. You can sharpen one another. • Here in Africa there are many things that could hold me back from sharing about the One whom 1 know, yet He’s worth the obedience on my end. Instead of thinking about everything that could go wrong, 1 think about all that can go right. Little boys who aimlessly walk around the city, begging for anything they can get, have a chance to know that they are loved by and delighted in by their heavenly Father. How can 1 not say this? How can 1 keep this to myself. I can’t, and 1 won’t. The One who goes before me says the chance that they believe is greater than my comfort.
