BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE MAY 31,2017 i The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 5TH ANNUAL SAGE FESTIVAL Sage Festival will have good music, good food By Thadd White Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - Make it five. The Sage Festival will kick off its fifth weekend Friday in downtown Windsor. The two-day event is sponsored by the Windsor/Bertie County Chamber of Commerce and Avoca Inc. “We are looking forward to a fun weekend,” Windsor/ Bertie Chamber Executive Director Lewis Hoggard said. “We have many people who mark this event on their cal endars months in advance because it is a fun time for all who attend.” This year’s event will fea ture the Breeze Band, Moon shine, JGrubb Band and Mr. Tunes. “We welcome Moonshine back on Friday night, and then have the Breeze Band coming in on Saturday among other live entertainment,” Hoggard said. Moonshine is eastern North Carolina’s hardest working band. The songs they play re flect their proud country roots with the rock energy heeded for today’s country venues. The band members come from diverse musical back grounds, but all share a com mon love for country and rock music, both traditional and popular. Their original songs span the entire country spec trum and add some rock and roll to give it a good kick. The cover songs they perform are crowd favorites and rock and country anthems. The Breeze Band began in 1980 and plays a mixture of beach, soul and classic rock ‘n roU. The Breeze Band brings an exciting sound, tremendous elegance, style, energy and flexibility to any event. This group of seasoned profession al artists will ensure the expe rience will be memorable. Vendors will be on hand at the festival on both days. They will provide food, crafts, carriage rides, show farm equipment and adult bever ages (Friday only). “We are pleased to welcome vendors of aU kinds to this year’s Sage Festival,” Hog gard said. “Come out and lis ten to good music while you eat.” This year’s event wiU again be centered in the parking lot behind Windsor Town Hall, but vendors will be available in that area as well as on King Street. “King Street will be closed from GranviUe to Dundee streets from 3 p.m. on Friday through the end of the festi val on Saturday night,” Wind sor Police Chief Todd Lane said. “I encourage everyone to make plans to take an alter nate route during that time.” While the street wiU be closed, the businesses along King Street in the downtown business district will be open, Hoggard said. “We encourage all those at tending the festival to take a moment to step inside the businesses downtown,” he said. “There is something for everyone.” For more information, con tact the Windsor/Bertie Coun ty Chamber of Commerce at 252-794-4277.
