Telemon seeks partnership with Bertie County
BY LESLIE BEACHBDARD
Bertie Ledger-Advance
WINDSDR - At the last regu
larly scheduled Bertie Coun
ty Commissioners meeting,
the board heard from Rox-
anna White, agent with Te
lemon.
White explained she
worked with Telemon when
the organization was in the
area previously, and the or
ganization had returned.
“We are here to assist the
transition of farm workers
and their families to better
employment,” added White.
Telemon provides job
training, assistance in re
ceiving a GED, and a mone
tary stipend for those in the
program.
“We would like a partner
ship between Telemon and
the Bertie County Commis
sioners to help find jobs for
the individuals in the pro
gram to learn skills or on-
the-job training,” she said.
Telemon currently has
a partnership with Bertie
County Joblink.
“Is this only for farm work
ers or can other individuals
qualify,” asked Chairman
John Trent.
“We primarily target farm
workers, their spouses and
dependents,” replied White.
“What is the organization’s
relationship with the Mid-
East Commission,” asked
Commissioner Ronald D.
Wesson.
“We partner with these
programs but people usually
go to them and we do out
reach,” answered White.
The Bertie County Com
missioners took no action
on the matter.
