Vidant Bertie Hospital is pleased to announce the implementation of a canine visitation and therapy program called Love on a Leash (LOL). The program will be used in several depart ments throughout the hospital, in accordance with policies and proce dures established by Vi dant Health and Vidant Bertie Hospital. Vidant Bertie Hospital is currently looking for interested persons to participate in the pro gram. Applicants must meet official require ments. Participants must be come a member of the Vidant Bertie Hospital volunteer organization by completing an ap plication and attending a volunteer orienta tion after being cleared through Human Re sources and Occupa tional Health. Greater Wynns Grove Com munity Development Center held its annual community fair on the grounds of the Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church on Sept. 23. The annual event takes place on the grounds of the church, and includes a pa rade, bouncy houses, amuse ment rides, entertainment, vendors and food. The Bertie County Sheriff’s Department led the parade, and the Grand Marshal for this year’s event was Bertie County citizen Vivian Saun ders. Dr. Stanley Elliott has accepted the position as the 9th president of the college. The North Carolina Board of Community Colleges approved Dr. Elliott’s position at its meeting held on Sept. 15. He will assume the role as president of Ro- anoke-Chowan Commu nity College on Oct. 2. The students, staff and parents received education and tips about different areas of bullying last week from the Poe Center. The Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Edu cation specializes in educational program for children. The center In this edition is based out of Raleigh. In the beginning of the school day, the stu dents received infor mation about bullying during age appropriate sessions held through out the school. Kindergarten and first grade students watched a puppet show in the gym concerning how to be good friends. Staff from the Poe Center performed skits, gave information and posed questions to the children being good friends, ho\v not to bully. Second and third graders met in the li brary to receive infor mation about how to be a good friend and tips on how to not bully and what to do if they were being bullied.
