Lost and found
Recently I was upstairs in
our home straightening up the
“playroom.”
The entire room is filled with
toys, puzzles, books, balls, cars,
trucks, dinosaurs and such.
Our 3 year old grandson keeps
his things there. Whenever he
comes over he heads upstairs
for the fun and games to begin.
As you might imagine, it is easy
for that room to be strewn with
various things from our fun-filled
sessions of playing with trucks,
tractors, baseball, and football
and even from wrestling!
After putting everything in
its proper place, 1 decided to
vacuum the floor as well. The
occasional pieces of Gold Fish
crackers, Teddy Grahams and
Cheetos were my clue that the
carpet could stand a good clean
ing!
As 1 began to vacuum, 1 no
ticed a very small shiny object
nestled in the carpet. 1 picked it
up and discovered a small silver
and turquoise pendant. 1 placed
it in my pocket and finished my
task at hand.
Later when my wife arrived
home, 1 present
ed the jewelry
item and asked
if she recognized
it. Her response'
was surprising to
say the least. She
was excited to
see her “lost pen
dant” had been
found. She stated
she had lost it
weeks earlier and
had searched to
find it but to no
avail. She wanted to know how
1 had found it.
* My response, “Vacuum the
floor!” What had been important
to her had become lost. Despite
her best attempts, she had not
been able to locate it.
1 learned an important lesson
that day. We can find that which

is lost if we will simply go about
our daily activities, do the nec
essary things in life and be ob
servant.
God will allow us to find those
seemingly lost or hidden little
gems that we have been search
ing for.
As we complete the Advent
season and enter into a New
Year, 1 challenge you to discov
er the priceless gems of Hope,
Peace, Joy, Love and most im
portantly, Jesus.
All of these can be discovered
in our everyday lives if we are
willing to do the needed things
and trust God to help us dis
cover and reclaim what we pre
viously thought had been lost.
Have a very blessed and happy
New Year.

clean slate!
It’s that time of year: reflection,
rethinking, regrouping! The
Christmas decor will hang there
for a few more days and then we
will pack it up, turn the calendar
on a brand new year and we will
be off and running. Seems like
this happens rather frequently
in these 50’s I’m living in! But
hey... I’m like everyone else;
lookin’ for a clean slate and a
fresh start.
1 remember my wife teaching
school many years ago. She did
as many do at the end of the
day. She would ask for volun
teers to raise their little hands
and signify a willingness to
clean the chalk board. I’m not
even sure those things exist in
our classrooms anymore.
Kids would raise their hands
and one would be selected to
grab the sponge, wet it down
and start wiping.
From left to right
all the markings,
all the instruc
tion* all the names
that .were placed
on the warning
list were all elimi
nated.
The green board
glistened with the
shine from the
water sponge. It
was all clean!
The next day
they would all start with a clean
slate!
This turning of the calendar
is a lot like that. We each look
at a new year as if the old mark-

ings and the things we failed
to achieve are all given a new
platform for effort and achieve
ment.
God is graceful! He is the God
of a second chance and a third
and a fourth...
Well, you get it! The Scripture
speaks of His long-suffering.
Be encouraged! It’s the time, to
clean the slate, set new goals,
and do the best you Can. You
have a clean slate!
