POWELLSVILLE - Three
men sought in connec
tion with a shooting
here March 8 have been
apprehended.
Bertie County Sheriff
John Holley said war
rants have been drawn
for three men in con
nection with an incident
which occurred shortly
after midnight March 8.
Sheriff Holley said
Bertie County Central
Dispatch received a
911 call from 110 Bass
Lane in Powellsville af
ter shots were allegedly
fired into an occupied
dwelling.
Deputies responded
to the area, and were
able to stop a vehicle
matching the descrip
tion of the suspect ve
hicle.
While conducting
an investigatory stop,
deputies determined
that the driver - Corey
Mitchell - had an out
standing order for ar
rest. The other two oc
cupants of the vehicle
were identified as Mau
rice Higgs and Daquan
Bazemore.
In addition, two fire
arms were located dur
ing the search. They
included a .32 caliber
revolver and a .45 cali
ber handgun.

Rascoe were contacted
to report to the scene
and conduct a crime

WINDSOR - The former West
ern Auto building on Gran
ville Street collapsed Sunday
afternoon.
The building, which was
scheduled for demolition
later this month, collapsed
suddenly and dramatically
shortly after 5 p.m. No one
was injured.
Windsor Town Administra
tor Allen Castelloe said com
missioners had planned to
approve a contract to have
it torn down at their April 12
meeting.
Once the building began to
collapse, town officials were
able to contact Boyd Cope
land Contracting, who came
to remove the rest of the
building. The Windsor Police

proceed

ROXOBEL - Neither rain
nor snow...
No, it isn’t the post
office that will proceed
as planned Saturday no
matter what... it’s the
2nd annual Roxobel Ag
Festival.
The event, which
will be held beside the
Roxobel Fire Depart
ment, is slated to kick
off Saturday morning,
and organizers plan to
continue the event even
if the rains currently
predicted for Saturday
come.
The official kickoff is
at 8 a.m. when runners
participating in the 5K
event will kick off the
event. Sign up is cur
rently ongoing either by
going to www.runthee-
ast.com or contact
ing Danielle Baker at
dbaker@bakerpeanuts.
com. The cost is $25 for
adults and $10 for chil
dren under 16 years of
age. All participants will
receive a T-shirt, and
prizes will be awarded.
The next big event
will be at 10 a.m. when
the annual parade gets
the event started for
the rest of the day.
The parade will feature
the Bertie High School
Band, the Bertie High
School JROTC, antique
tractors, motorcycles,
horses and more.

native and local surgeon
celebrates retirement af
ter more than 30 years of
service.
Family, friends, former
patients and previous
and present co-workers
gathered to celebrate the
retirement of Dr. Alden
Davis.
The retirement party
was held from 2 until 5
p.m. Sunday, March 25 at
the Windsor Senior Cen
ter.
Many gathered to say
congratulations to Dr. Da
vis on his years of help
ing others and upon his
retirement.
Many shook his hand,
gave a hug, and said thank
you for a job well done.
At 3 p.m. Bertie County
native and local pharma
cist William “Bill” Pittman
welcomed everyone to
the event.
“Dr. Davis completed
his undergraduate stud
ies at East Carolina Uni
versity in just three years
and then went on to med
ical school. After gradua
tion, he returned to Wind
sor to open his practice
in 1986,” said Pittman.
