$25,000 Disaster Relief
Fund grant to the UNC-
Chapel Hill Coastal
Resilience Center to
support the Hurricane
Matthew Recovery and
Resilience Initiative, ac
cording to Laura Bease-
ly, statewide grants
committee chair and a
member of the board of
directors.
The grant funding will
support the Center’s
planning and mitigation
work in six communities
impacted by Hurricane
Matthew through a col
laborative program be
tween the University of
North Carolina, North
Carolina State Univer
sity and Duke Univer
sity. Students who are
in the Natural Hazards
Resilience Certificate
program will work with
the Recovery and Re
silience Initiative in the
following communi
ties: Fair Bluff, Kinston,
Lumberton, Princeville,
Seven Springs and
Windsor.

focus on helping to
meet long-term recov
ery needs in eastern
North Carolina.

Mark’s Episcopal Church will

tour the inside of the build
ing beginning at noon. Also at
noon. Bingo will be available
for those wishing to enjoy the
game. It will be played inside
the Roxobel Fire Department.
In addition, there will be a
Little Mr. and Little Miss Farmer
competition which is for ages 3
to 7.
One of the highlights of the
day will be the annual Roxobel
Volunteer Fire Department’s
BBQ chicken plate sale which
will occur at 4 pm.

were obtained charg
ing Mitchell, Ba-
zemore and Higgs in
the incident.
Warrants were
drawn charging all
three men with dis
charging a weapon
into an occupied
dwelling/moving ve
hicle, felony conspir
acy and injury to real
property.
Two of the men -
Mitchell and Higgs
- were arrested in
Fitt County on March
28, and are current
ly being held in the
Fitt County Deten
tion Center under
a $370,000 secured
bond. Bazemore was
arrested in Martin
County the same day,
and placed in the Ber-
tie-Martin Regional
Jail under a $50,000
secured bond.
Bcizemore is slated
to make his first ap
pearance in Bertie
County District Court
today (Wednesday)
while Mitchell and
Higgs will each have
their first appearance
on April 18.
