Ruf fin owned both build ings, but had agreed to allow the town to re move the Western Auto structure. Castelloe said the next step will be having con tractors resubmit bids which now will be just for cleanup. Those bids will likely be approved at the April 12 meet ing, and cleanup begin shortly thereafter. Castelloe said the area should be safe, but urged citizens to stay away from the debris. He also expressed appreciation to Boyd Copeland Contracting, the Windsor Police De partment, Windsor Fire Department and the Windsor Public Works team. Phelps, took to the podium to share some special mo ments about Dr. Davis. “1 spent some time at East Carolina University with Al- den and when he left and went to medical school we would go visit him,” Phelps said. Phelps also joked about Dr. Davis’ performing surgery on his mother and how af terward he seemed a little nervous about the fact that he had just operated on his best friend’s mother. “1 asked Alden what he is going to do now that he has graduated, because he is not retiring he is just graduating from having to work,” Phelps added. A total of ap proximately 30,250 colonos copies and 12,750 gastrosco pies,” she continued. On behalf of the town of Windsor, Wilson presented Dr. Davis with a key to the city. Former co-worker Penny Clough talked about going to work for Dr. Davis fresh out of a local medical assisting program. “Dr. Davis was the one who helped encourage me to go to nursing school. He is also the one who found my colon cancer. He is a great doctor and a wonderful friend,” said Clough. Dr. Davis’ brother, Brian, enlightened the crowd on funny stories of him growing up. “My brother rode his bike down the road with an acre on each side and would hit the only stove pipe in the area. Mom took him in and had to clean up all of his wounds. The funny part was it was on our sister’s bike, and all she was worried about was where was her bike,” said Davis. “After Alden started col lege, he really found his groove in things, like the movie ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back.’ He really has done great things,” he con tinued. “1 enjoyed my time, but 1 did miss a lot of things when my children were growing up. 1 missed a lot of school plays, church programs and ballet recitals. 1 tell my resi dents all of the time to take time to slow down and en joy the simple things in life,” said Dr. Davis. “1 hope to enjoy to get to go fishing and hunting in my retirement. 1 also hope to re turn to work at some point. 1 just know 1 can’t spend many hours over an operat ing table,” he continued. Dr. Davis has had multiple abdominal surgeries over the past two years.
