THADD WHITE
Bertie Ledger-Advance
WINDSOR - The Bertie Coun
ty Board of Elections found
Adrian Bowen not to be a
resident of Bertie County.
The board conducted a
hearing Tuesday afternoon
in which they heard a chal
lenge from Vivian Clark, who
challenged Bowen’s resi
dency, and therefore quali
fication to seek the office of
sheriff.
Clark filed an affidavit say
ing while Bowen changed
his home address to 110
East Robin Lane in Wind
sor, he still owned a resi
dence in Elizabeth City (504
Troy Drive) and his wife and
daughter still resided in Pas
quotank County.
The Bertie County Board
of Elections Attorney, Lloyd
Smith, began the hearing
by outlining the procedure
which allowed both Clark
and Bowen to present their
cases. He told board mem
bers and those attending the
hearing the burden of proof
was on Bowen to prove he
did reside in the county.
Bowen began by produc
ing 106 items of documenta
tion which he said proved
he lived in the county. Those
items included voter regis
tration and a driver’s license,
which listed his address as
East Robin Lane.
