The northern cardinal is a North American bird in the genus
Cardinalis; it is also known colloquially as the redbird or com
mon cardinal. It can be found in southern Canada, through
the eastern United States from Maine to Texas and south
through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Its habitat includes

northern cardinal is a mid-sized songbird with a body length
of 8.3-9.1 in. It has a distinctive crest on the head and a
mask on the face which is black in fhe male and gray in the
female. The male is a vibrant red, while the female is a dull
reddish olive.

He passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the
Coimtryside Home in Madison.
Jason Wayne was bom May 28, 1971 to his par
ents Jerry and Sandra (Harmon) Vaughn in Nor
folk, Nebraska, He earned the rank of Eagle Scout
and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in
1989. Jason suffered from a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his father Jerry, brother Jim,
nephew Robert, grandmother Ruby Harmon and
numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jason was preceded in death by his mother San
dra, grandparents John and Rachel Vaughn, and
grandfather James Milton Harmon.

The Bertie County Public Library will host a program about
