The office, which is located at 1001 South King Street in Wind sor, was open to allow those eligible for assis tance due to Hurricane Matthew to apply. While the center will close, those eligible to apply for assistance can still apply for help. Those eligible must have had damage by Hurricane Matthew in 2016. ReBuild NC is helping applicants seek help from the Hurricane Matthew Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery. Those who have al ready made an appli cation will be able to continue contact with staff via telephone and email. Nancy Bragg Dawson Rascoe, 86, spent the last 25 years running the camp out of the bed and breakfast inn she and her husband bought in 1992. Over 100 people of all ages gathered for a little holiday fun at the lighting of the Christ mas tree and celebra tion at the Askewville Community Building Monday. Horse and carriage rides loaded with rid ers trotted through the town and provided views of the town’s Christmas lights. Inside were women dressed in hoop-skirt dresses and children dressed in Christmas attire. There were a wide va riety of refreshments, including Christmas cookies and hot choco late. There was an arts and crafts table, a pho to prop station. Askewville residents R.T. Johnson and Brax ton Jernigan provided entertainment during the earlier part of the evening. Vidant Bertie hospital and other local first re sponder organizations hosted the Commu nity Safety Day at the old Bertie High School Gymnasium.
