WINDSOR - The Bertie
County Sheriff’s Office
has announced a $3,000
reward for information
leading to the arrest
and conviction of those
responsible for a home
invasion on Early Sta
tion Road last month.
The reward was es
tablished after an elder
ly couple was assaulted
and had items stolen
from their home in the
early morning hours of
June 15.

ficers arrived on the
scene quickly and es
tablished a perimeter,
but the perpetrators
were able to get away.
When officers arrived
at the scene they found
the male victim had
been assaulted, bound
and threatened while
his wife was also as
saulted and tied up. The
couple suffered injuries
and the male victim re
quired hospitalization
following the incident.

free seminar at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, July 16 at the
Martin Community Col
lege - Bertie Campus.
The campus is located
at 409 Granville St. in
Windsor.
A second seminar
will be held at 6 p.m.
Monday, Aug. 26 at the
Aulander Community
Building, which is lo
cated at 116 South Com
merce St. in Aulander.
Voters are expected
to be required to show
photo identification be
fore they vote beginning
in 2020. North Carolina
voters passed a Con
stitutional Amendment
last November requir
ing voter ID. However,
state courts have ruled
the law unconstitution-

Bertie joins Martin, Chatham for Leadership Academy

along with Chatham County,
have joined together for the
County2County Leadership
Initiative called Martin-Ber-
tie County Leadership Acad
emy.
The objective of the pro
gram is to form a collabora
tive relationship between
Chatham, Bertie, Martin
and Washington counties to
share resources and knowl
edge, educate employees
and form bonds to further
the goals of all participants.
According to Martin Coun
ty Manager David Bone, this
is a first-of-its-kind model.
Chatham, Bertie, Martin and
Washington counties will
join together to provide a
two-year, 64-hour instruc
tional curriculum for Ber
tie, Martin and Washington
county employees using
the successfully established
model of the Chatham Lead
ership Academy.
