POWELLSVILLE - Discussion will con tinue. The Bertie County Board of Com missioners declined to adopt a reso lution presented by one of its mem bers and a group of citizens Monday night. But, the group said they will be back with a similar resolution and will continue to work with county leaders to find compromise. The discussion of a proposed reso lution supporting the Second Amend ment right to keep and bear arms was sometimes heated as residents spoke about their beliefs, but ended with both citizens and commission ers leaving open a path forward. Those wishing to cast their ballots in the March primary can do so beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. And, folks in Bertie County will have two places to choose from when voting early. In Powellsville, vot ers can cast votes from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday from Feb. 13 through Feb. 28. One-stop vot ing will also be available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29. Those wishing to vote in Powellsville can do so by going to the Powellsville Town Hall, which is located at 106 East Main St. The other early-vot ing locale will be at the Bertie County Board of Elections, which is lo cated at 210 West Wat son St. in Windsor. Voting will be avail able from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday Feb. 13 through Feb. 28. In between dealing with a variety of hot- button topics, the Ber tie County Commission ers received good news - and a pair of checks - from the ABC Board. “I’m going to be the one person here to night who isn’t going to give you grief,” ABC In this edition Board Chairman Mi chael Freeman mused. “I am not asking for anything. As a matter of fact, 1 am bringing you something.” Freeman then an nounced he had a check for $12,002.50, which would be the profit from the ABC Board last year. He also had a check for $169 earmarked for the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office. Those are the assur ances of Bertie County and Windsor officials following minor flood ing late last week. Bertie Emergency Services Director Mitch Cooper said the Cashie River had already dipped from minor flooding stage to the Action stage, and added the rainfall Tuesday and the rest of the week was not likely to change it. “The upcoming fore cast doesn’t pose any concerns at this time,” Cooper said. “Most of the rain today (Tues day) will stay to our west, but we will keep an eye on the northern end of the county.” The deluge of four inches of rain Friday night was enough to cause an already el evated Cashie River to minor flooding stage. Cooper said the ma jor issue was at Liv- ermon Park and Mini Zoo where there was minor flooding.
