Census information remains secure

As the 2020 Census pre
pares to take shape, Bertie
County officials are urging
citizens to participate.
They are also reminding
them their answers are se
cure and safe.
The numbers compiled by
the census have a 10-year
lasting effect on Bertie Coun
ty and each community. The
numbers of those who live in
the county will directly coin
cide to dollars in state and
federal funding.
In addition, the number of
people living in North Caro
lina will directly impact the
number of people repre
senting the state in the U.S.
House of Representatives.
Those facts make the cen
sus important, but those
who respond can rest as
sured their information is
not available to the general
public.
“Your responses to the
2020 census are protected
by law,” according to infor
mation from the U.S. Census
Bureau. “Under Title 12 of
the U.S. Code, the U.S. Cen
sus Bureau cannot release
any information that identi
fies you individually.”
This means that every
census bureau employee is
sworn to protect that infor
mation, and failure to do so
can result in a fine of up to
$250,000 and five years in
prison.

ROXOBEL - Plans for the fourth
annual Roxobei Ad Festival are
well under way.
The event, slated for 10 a.m.
through 4 p.m. Saturday, May
2, will be held on Church Street
in Roxobei and will once again
feature music, vendors, prizes,
games and food.
Those wishing to help spon
sor the annual event can do so
by getting a sponsorship form
from the Roxobei Ag Festival
Facebook Page or emailing ce-
groxobel@gmail.com.
Rain Maker Sponsorships are
available for $1,000 donation
with a $500 contribution earn
ing a Barn Raiser designation.
Sponsors can also be Harvest
Sponsors ($250), Cultivator
Sponsor ($100) or Seed Sower
Sponsors (less than $100).
Those who help sponsor the
event will be recognized in
online advertising, as well as
signage at the event. They will
also receive a complimentary
Roxobei Ag Festival T-shirt.
As usual, the event will kickoff
with a parade at 10 a.m. which
will follow N.C. 308 in Roxobei.

to relocate

The board, which
will hold their regularly
scheduled meeting at 6
p.m. that day, will now
meet in the Superior
Court Room at the Ber
tie County Courthouse.

reason, but the meeting
expects to be highly at
tended.
During their meeting

did not take action on
a request by one local
group to adopt a reso
lution supporting the
Second Amendment to
the U.S. Constitution.
