Tuesday afternoon, Bertie County announced six addi tional cases of COVlD-19 in the county, raising the total to 67. The total number of cases rose by 16 in the past week, and there was a third con firmed death in Bertie Coun ty due to complications from the virus. “We are deeply saddened to announce the third COVID- 19-related death in Bertie County,” the Bertie County Government Facebook page read. “The patient was in the 50-64 age range with under lying health conditions. “Out of respect for the fam ily, no other information will be released,” the statement continued. “Please keep the patient’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.” As of Tuesday afternoon. there were six zip codes in Bertie County which report ed COVlD-19 cases. The seven branches of the Albemarle Regional Library are open as of yesterday (Wednesday), according to ARL Direc tor Hugh Davis. While the libraries are open - including the Bertie County Library in Windsor and the Sallie Harrell Jenkins Memo rial Library in Aulander - there are new regula tions in place. Seven candidates became graduates as the program wrapped up Monday evening at the Williamston campus of MCC. Baker and two of his fellow classmates - William Holley and Colter Lipscomb - have already been hired by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office. At 51 years old. Baker was the senior statesman of the 36th BLET class at MCC. After 20 years military service. Baker took his degree in Criminal Jus tice and signed up without hesi tation. “I’m still young,” Baker ex plained. “1 want to make a differ ence.” He brings to the job experi ences he faced while serving the U.S. Army as a military police of ficer.
