Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said his office is work ing “several good leads” in the shooting, which oc curred on Piney Woods Road outside of Lewiston Wood viile. Sheriff Holley said his of fice received a call around 8:20 p.m. Sunday that a per son had been shot and was in the roadway at the 800 block of Piney Woods Road. Upon arrival, it was deter mined the man had been shot multiple times. The victim was transport ed to West Bertie Elemen tary School in Kelford where he was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Bertie County Manag er Juan Vaughan 11 said his proposed budget for fiscal year 2020-2021 presented reflected no tax increase nor did it provide an appropria tion from fund balance. Aulander Police Chief Jimmy Barmer com mended a host of of ficers from several de partments who aided him in the arrest of Dwight Davis, 46, of 407 Chestnut St. in Wind sor. Chief Barmer was pa trolling on Sunday, May 24 when he noticed Davis walking with a black trash bag over his shoulder. He turned around and stopped to speak to Davis on South Commerce St. after see ing the latter toss the bag into a ditch.
