WINDSOR - Bertie
County has seen a rise
in the number of con
firmed COVlD-19 cases,
including a third Bertie
County EMS employee
and a fifth COVlD-19 re
lated death.
Albemarle Regional
Health announced
Friday, July 31 the
fifth COVlD-19 related
death.
The announcement
stated the patient was
over the age of 65. No
other details about
the patient will be re
leased.
“Please keep the pa
tient’s family andfriends
in your thoughts during
this difficult time,” said
Bertie County Manager
Juan Vaughan, 11.
Just the day before,
Vaughan confirmed a
third Bertie County
Emergency Medical Ser
vices employee tested
positive for COVlD-19.
Accordingto Vaughan,
the employee was con
sidered high risk for ex
posure due to their job
duties, and is doing well
in isolation at home.
The employee has
not completed routine
work duties since July
23, and began exhibit-

pandemic.

held from 7:30 until 9
p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 as
a drive-through event
at Bertie High School.

hits Bertie County.
As Tropical Isaias
moved through the
area early Tuesday
morning, disaster
struck just before 2:30
a.m.
A tornado ravaged
through the Woodard
and Morning roads
in the Cedar Landing
community.
The tornado de
stroyed homes, includ
ing a mobile home
park, flipped cars into
piles, and caused de
struction throughout
its path.
“Two fatalities have
been confirmed- one
adult male and one
adult female, and the
assessment of the area
is still ongoing,” said
Bertie County Emer
gency Management Di
rector Mitch Cooper.
According to Ber
tie County Chairman
Ronald Wesson, there
had been a search and
rescue mission for one
adult and two children
that were unaccounted
for.
Later in the day, the
mother and two chil
dren who were thought
to be missing after the
tornado were found
safe.
According to Bertie
County Sheriff John
Holley, The two chil
dren were not in the
area and the mother
was at work when the
storm hit.
