He was bom in Bertie County to the late McKinley Conner, Jr. and Lucy White Conner on November 22, 1957. Joey was a member of Unit ed Christian Outreach and held several positions over the years serving his Lord including being a deacon. Joey eryoyed the outdoors better than anyone. You could ^ways find him on the water fishing and/or riding around in lus boat. Joey was a devoted husband to his wife of thir teen years, Jennie Conner and a loving father to his son Jesse Conner. He also loved Diana his daughter- in-law, just like a daughter. Through this marriage God blessed him with two beautiful grandchildren Brandon Lonnie and Elizabeth Ann “Lizzie”. He also survived by a brother. Cola McKinley Cormer, and his wife Judy of Windsor and many aunts, niec es and nephews. A funeral service was held Simday, January 3, 2021 at 2:00 RM. at United Christian Outreach in Windsor with Rev. J.R. Thomas officiating. The burial followed at Edgewood cemetery. Main Street Williamston 252-802-8015 Joel Franklin Johnson “Poppy” BETHEL - Joel Franklin Johnson “Poppy”, age 76, of Bethel, NC, formerly of Lewiston, NC, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2020, at Vidant Greenville Hospital with Ms family by his side. Joel was bom December 20, 1944 in Bladenboro, NC to the late WiUard and Efiza Johnson. He was a 1963 graduate of Bladenboro High School. Joel was the owner and operator of J.F.J. Constmctors, Inc. for nearly 40 years. Joel married Ms best friend Jeanette Powell Johnson on September 23, 1989. They have Mck- named each other “Buddy” since they began dating and have eryoyed a one of a kind love. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Aulander where he was a choir member . Joel truly lived life to the fullest through sim ple pleasures such as classic cars, passing out Werther’s Original candy to any and every one, riding his motorcycle and traveling with Jeanette, singing, spending time with family and friends, playing UNO, visiting “the boat,” and mowing the yard even when it didn’t need mowing. Joel’s favor ite thing to do was making sure that everyone else had everything they wanted or needed. He also loved carrying flowers to Ms wife at work. Joel was proceeded in death by Ms parents Wil lard and Eliza Johnson, Ms brother Larry Johnson, and Ms sister Miriam IGMaw. Joel is survived by his wife and best friend of 31 years, Jeanette Johnson. His children include Joel Stephen Johrrson and wife Angie of Garland, NC; Denise Naugle of Bladenboro, NC; Alan GeU and wife Angel of Bethel, NC; Amber Bigford and boyfriend Jerry Chandler of Goldsboro, NC; and Frankie David and husband Nick of MooresvUle, NC. His honorary children who he loved as Ms own include Athena Price and husband Jesse; Michelle Newsome and husband Larry; Charlotte NoweU and husband Michael; Chet Holding; and MelaMe Eichhom and husband Stefan. Joel’s grandchildren include Marissia, Braydon, Blake, Paige, Dylan, Jackson, Brooke, Trimty, Sean, Mason, and Austin. Honorary grandchildren include Braxton, Jacob, Brycen, Broden, Maddox, Charlynn, Willow, and Braelyn. Joel’s siblings include Merle Johnson and wife Marlene; Greg Johnson and wife Barbara Deborah Kelley and hirsband Donald; Mary Edith McKmght and husband Floyd; Gretta Jackson and husband Tommy.
