BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE JANUARY 7,2021 13 The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 Faith Believe in his plan and promises... Special Events / have read many people’s feel ings about the past year and / must admit there were times I felt depressed. / held on to God and watched as the world we knew fell apart. But I have a new mind-set - not because I think things will improve in this new year - they probably will still be hard. It is because a sermon 1 heard re minded me that all things work together for good for those who love the Lord, for those who are called according to His purpose. After the sermon 1 remem bered the disciples, who after Jesus was crucified, huddled in a locked room terrified of the Jewish leaders. 1 remembered the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus. They had lost all hope. They had believed Jesus was the Messiah and now He was dead. Jesus’ disciples had left ev erything to follow Him. All the things they saw and heard dur ing those three and a half years made them certain He was the Messiah. They believed He had come to deliver them from Rome and take the throne of David. His words about dying "1 will meditate on Your precepts and contemplate Your ways." -PSAIM 119:15 SYLVIA HUGHES Meditating on his Word and rising again were lost on them. They just didn’t register. So when He died, their world fell apart. They thought the worst thing that could ever happen had happened. Little did they know, it was the best thing that ever happened, for them and for the whole world. Sorrow and fear lasted a short time and then came joy. Such joy that it never left them again. God had a plan and He carried it out. It was a wonderful, unbe lievable, miraculous plan The disciples were devastated be cause they got lost in what they saw with their human eyes. Let’s not do the same thing. God still has a plan and He is carrying it out. It may look bad to us right now but for those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. He has a wonderful, unbelievable, miraculous plan. Don’t let what you see take away your joy. Believe that whatever is happening now has a greater purpose and God knows exactly what He is doing. “For 1 know the plans 1 have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) Whatever God’s plan, it will come to pass. Nothing in this world or the unseen world can keep it from happening. Oh such joy to know that God has us in the palm of His hand and noth ing can keep Him from working things for our good! Take your eyes off what is hap pening in this world and believe in His plan and His promises!
