Jamesville man leads officers on chase
Suspect faces drug, felony fleeing charges

WINDSOR - A Jamesville man
led police on a short chase
in Windsor but ended up in
Bertie-Martin Regional Jail
for his troubles.
Windsor Police Chief Jus
tin Jackson said a routine
stop for expired tags ended
with two agencies working
together to apprehend the
suspect.
Windsor Police Officer
Tonya Todd noticed a car
operating with being driven
down Ghent Street with an
expired tag and stopped the
vehicle.
Once the car was stopped,
Officer Todd asked the driv
er - Tony Lorenza Speller,
33, of Jamesville to roll down
the windows due to tinting.
At that time, Officer Todd
noticed there were five peo
ple in the car.
Speller said he knew the
tags were expired, but had
tried to get them up-to-date

March 2 in connection
with the incident after
an investigation that in
cluded the Bertie Coun
ty Sheriff’s Office, Hert
ford County Sheriff’s
Office, Ahoskie Police
Department, Down East
Drug Task Force and the
N.C. State Bureau of In
vestigation.

the wrong town.

that fugitive is in Bertie-

more than $165,000 - the
fifth largest total in the coun
try - for the Relay For Life
of Bertie County. By reach
ing the $165,000 fund-raising
level for the first time, the
Perdue Lewiston plant was
one of three companies na
tionally to achieve Hero of
Research status.
Since 1995, Perdue associ
ates have raised more than
$1.7 million in support of
the Relay For Life of Bertie
County, primarily through
payroll deduction and local
fundraising activities.
“We are so grateful to ev
eryone at Perdue Farms
Lewiston plant for their
tremendous support,” said
Gary Reedy, CEO of the
American Cancer Society.
