Senior Wildlife Officer Kyle Barkley said two boats were following one another short ly before 6:30 a.m. when the first boat struck what is be lieved to be a submerged log in the Sound. The second boat hit the same log mo ments later. When each boat hit the log, the motor broke off the boat and landed in the pas senger area of the vehicle. “1 do not believe speed was a factor in this case, just a mostly submerged object,” Barkley said. All four individuals were injured, but two were able to be treated at the scene. The fourth was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville while the fourth was taken to Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton. He also gave an over view of some accom plishments the school system achieved dur ing the COVlD-19 pan demic. Bertie County Schools provided ap proximately 600,000 meals to students, and distributed 1,000 Chromebooks and 200 hotspots to chil dren during the last 14-months of the CO- VlD-19 pandemic. “We purchased addi tional Chromebooks for families with multiple children participating in virtual learning and additional hot spots. CPTA Executive Di rector Pamela Perry recently presented the Bertie County Com missioners with an overview of its annual report. CPTA finished its 2019-2020 fiscal years with assets totaling $2,646,010.29. “We did have revenue loss during the 2019- 2020 fiscal year due to COVlD-19 effecting our rideshares in February. We did receive C.A.R.E. funding through a COV- ID-19 grant to help with the losses,” said Perry. CPTA showed an equal balance of $2,646,010.29 between its assets and liabilities during the fiscal year. CPTA showed a reve nue of $1,172,942.57 for the fiscal year.
