Ten out of the 12 volun teer fire departments in the county received grants from the Office of State Fire Mar shall, totaling of $198,368. The grant will go towards helping the fire departments purchase the equipment that they need in order to properly serve the citizens of the county in case of an emergency. “It’s my honor and privi lege to provide these grants to our volunteer fire depart ments across the state. Many of these departments lack the resources to purchase the equipment necessary to help keep our citizens safe. Those who have been wanting the chance to get a closer look at the brand new terminal at Tri-County Airport will have the opportunity to do so soon. The Airport Author ity board is hosting an Open House on Satur day, June 5 and the pub lic from all three local counties - Bertie, Hert ford and Northampton - are welcome to come out and tour the new facility. “We have looked for ward to introducing our new terminal build ing to the public for a long time, but because of COVlD-19 we did not feel it was safe until now,” said Tammy Lee, who serves as chair of both the Airport Au thority and the Bertie County Commission ers. “We are extremely proud and thankful for our new building.” The Open House is planned for 10 a.m. un til 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 5 and will be held at Tri-County Airport See OPEN, A5 BRANDICE HOGGARD Staff Writer WINDSOR- Elementary third and fourth graders learned about the science behind CO- VlD-19 testing, along with de veloping their own protective COVID STEM product Tuesday. A former Windsor student, Troy Veale, CEO of One Love Laboratory along with volun teer team members from STEM Innovation Mentors came to Windsor Elementary to hold an outside learning lab with the students.
