Albemarle Regional Health Services (ARHS) issued its current regional COVlD-19 update on Friday, Aug. 27. The updates are released on Friday each week, showing the updated information on vaccines, active cases and facility outbreaks. The re port includes Bertie County. According to the report, there have been 2,012 lab confirmed cases of COVlD-19 for the county, with 1,882 of those cases considered re covered. There were 83 ac tive COVlD-19 cases report ed. Sadly, there have been 47 deaths. As of press time, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) COVlD-19 Dash board for Monday, Aug. 30 shows the current overall case count for the county at 2,048 cases. That is an in crease of 36 cases since the Aug. 27 report. The ARHS report reported one new COVID-19 related death within the region, but not in Bertie County. The death was a 50-64-year-old individual from Pasquotank County. There is See COVID A5 The Hive House receives $18,000 grant The grant will help hire certified teachers SALISBURY, MD. — Per due Farms, through its Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, has awarded an $18,000 grant to help Bertie County Hive House hire certified teachers for its summer tutoring program. The program aims to help K-8 students who have struggled amid the pandemic improve their reading and math skills heading into the 2021-2022 school year. Bertie County Hive House is a trusted hub of resources for residents of Lewiston- Woodville and western Bertie County, serving at-risk children, youth, and families since 2009. It provides after school programs for elementary and middle school students, nutri tion and wellness pro grams for seniors, a food pantry, hot meals. No one was injuried in the accident which occured just before 3 p.m. The ac cident occured on King Street between Granville and Dundee streets.
