Registration is open for partici pants to sign up. The Spectacular, which is the only fundraising event of the year for the Good Shepherd Food Pan try, is slated for Saturday, Oct. 30. This year’s event will be held in-person. Due to COVID-19 the Spectacular, formally Spooktacu- lar, was a virtual race last year. “After last year’s virtual race, the committee is planning to hold this year’s 12th annual Spectacular as an in-person event in the hopes that we can share this event with more people in our conununity- A big shout out to all of the rtmners and walkers who have supported this important fundraiser for the Good Shepherd Food Pantry in the past and will into the future”, said Race Director, Joe Huff. Albemarle Regional Health Services (ARHS) issued its current regional COVID-19 update on Fri day, Oct. 1. The updates are released on Friday each week, showing the updated information on vaccines, active cases, fatalities and facility outbreaks. The re port includes Bertie County, and seven other counties, which are part of ARHS, in cluding Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Pasquotank and Perquim ans counties. According to the re port, there have been 2,364 lab confirmed cas es of COVID-19 for Bertie County, with 2,261 of those cases considered recov ered. There were 54 active COVID-19 cases reported. . Sadly, there have been 49 deaths due to the virus. This week, Oct. 3-6 is Fire Prevention Week, and the American Red Cross is urging everyone to test their smoke alarms now due to the increased threat of house fires during colder weather.
