There were nearly 100 members present ,, from almost all the councils in the dis trict. Jack H. Stribling presided over the meeting, R. E. Crawford, of Hayesville, made the welcoming ad dress and Hugh Monteith, of Syl va, gave the response. L. P. Hambhn, of Brevard, who is state, vice' councilor, made a very interesting talk on "Citizen ship." He also called attention to the state meeting to be held in Morehead City the . latter part of the summer. W. H. Grogan, Jr., of Brevard, spoke on "Fraternities the Great est of These Is 'the Home." The next meeting will be held in Highlands on the third Thursday night of July July 21. Jack Stribling and Hugh Mon teith have written a degree that is given to all new representatives from all councils attending a Dis trict No. 1 meeting. The idea is for all councils to have a new rep resentative at each district meet until all Juniors have taken the degree. The degree was of such praise-worthy material that it has been written into the new national ritual for the Junior Order. Oscar C. Bryant, of Cullasaja council, is still very ill at this writing. meeting night. At this meeting there are three who are to be re instated: Pete Moses, Charlie Hig don and Logan Clarke.- There is, also, one new member to take in Wayne Higdon. John H, Thomas, a member of the Cullasaja council and a produce drummer of the streets of Frank lin, comes forth with an announce ment that should make all Juniors blush with pride. Brother Thomas says that he has an offer from a certain lady of Wayside, Ga., beg ging him to go on the stage. The new company will be called the Thomas and Williamson "HEARTY CHUCKLE" shows. The plans are for a tour of the entire United States, with Mr. Thomas playing the leading role. The play, for the main show, is to be "Ten Nights In A Bar-room." But I am afraid that, after the ten nights are over, a new play should be written, entitled "All's Quiet on the Southern Front." As to having signed up for this new position, Mr. Thomas hasn't, as he says that there is a certain woman in Macon county very jeal ous about this plan. Sollie Anderson, the Claude Duvall, of Cowee council, was in a dangerous car wreck last nday afternoon. About half a mile below the Iotla bridge on the Bryson City road the radius rod on his automobile cama loose. The car, out of control, left the high way and went over a steep bank, headed for the Tennessee river. After turning over three times it lodged against a tree on the water's edge and thus Claude was saved from a watery crave. Claude crot a rib broken and several skins and bruises, but he is now able to get about, lhe car was badly dam aged. Blaine, who lives on the Georgia road some six or seven miles from Franklin. Now Charlie and I are great friends, so I stopped to say, 'Hello.' Mrs. Blaine said that Charlie was up on the mountain side cutting her some stove wood. Well 1 just couldn't refuse to make the climb, for we arc friends. The day was warm and I got warm be fore I had gone very far. As I made step after step I thought I ought to be getting in hearing distance of the wicked ax that Charlie always threw, but every thing was as quiet as a funeral procession. I guess I had gone just about a quarter of a mile from the house when I saw a large log ly ing across the mountainside; and horrors upon horrors there was an :ix stuck into this log. I was tfraid that something bad had hap pened to my dear friend Charlie, so with a rush, while my heart was beating 'Dixie' against my ribs, came up to the log. What a relief was in store for me then. The winter winds had blown a great heap of leaves against the upper side ot this log ana my riend Charlie Blaine had taken off his coat, spreading it out upon the leaves, and thus I found him with a smile on his lips as he dreamed of an oil stove."
